Where is Randy Duke with his analysis on this hoops situation. He's a big fan of Patterson's.

This is absolutely a puss move by Patterson.
He didn't draft Oden, he would have drafted KD and it would have been the best decision he ever made. He was overridden by people at Vulcan, Paul Allen's investment arm. Patterson was never in charge. Some insiders say he is well respected in the NBA but that goes opposite of what Vulcan people say about him. He flat out couldn't make decisions, something that is being shown right now. So they made them for him and showed him the door.
Maybe Patterson is waiting for April 1, when Barnes' buyout drops to 1.5 from 1.75?
Probably didn't have to involve two committees, either. We put together committes to fire and hire someone so that the decision can't be put on someone's head. Chickenshit move by Bellmont. Hire someone to make decisions, what the hell are you paying him for?

Completely different situations. Tennessee had to fire Tyndall because the NCAA was coming after him.
The Patterson in Portland story is a really long one. That franchise had all sorts of issues -- most people remember the "Jail Blazers," but the team had serious financial issues as well. He got the team over those issues (I think the Rose Garden had to file bankruptcy). But once he got them through that, I agree, he made a mistake on Ogden over Durant. I would say, in the grand total, his results in Portland were mixed.

We did get a disco ball and fireworks during player intro.
At this moment in time, Patterson just seems like another version of Dodds.
His primary concern is revenues. Winning is secondary.
As I admitted above, I hoped for (even expected) more from him.

That's why they fired him, doesn't take a committee to prove wrong was done. Think they'll have a committee to hire one or do you think the AD will earn his money and decide on his own?
Doesn't change my thoughts on "our process". There are pluses and minuses when it comes to hiring by committee. The biggest minus is there is never a consensus and when blame is placed (after a bad hire) it's dispersed among the committee. It's a way for a bad AD to get around doing his job. Be a man, make a decision. It's what your paid the big bucks for.

My understanding is that the Tyndall hiring was pretty much a decision made by Hart (the AD at Tennessee).
I think there are advantages and disadvantages to having a committee.
At the end of the day, I bet Tennessee wishes they hired a committee during the Tyndall process. No way Tyndall would have been approved by a committee with his NCAA problems.
I'm not sure Hart will hire a committee but I would bet more people are involved in the process after the Tyndall fiasco.

I sincerely hope Barnes lands at a good program like Tennessee.
He's not a bad guy and was a very good coach for us for many years. But we've stagnated and he may not be the guy to get us over the hump. We need new blood and enthusiasm to pay for a new arena. With luck, Patterson won't screw up this hire!

I don't think it was coincidental that this supposed "ultimatum" to Barnes was released literally right as Gregg Marshall's season was coming to an end.
