Question for Aggies on this board

I'm confused why on an upstart UT sports message board there is a thread asking Aggies a ? Strange, but I'm just a lurker who rarely posts. The back and forth is interesting but its just weird that any Aggy fan would be on this site. I know that I'd have to be bored as hell to get on another rival teams message board ever, especially regularly.

I have no evidence to support this but I feel fairly confident that Sherman would have likely started Jameill showers over manziel in '12.
Again no evidence to support that.
Well, maybe he should have started? Perhaps you'd have won more games? Since it didn't happen and furthermore since we're just making things up at this point I'd suggest that maybe you'd have 2 MNC's with Showers as the starting QB??

The fact that Sherman had him (JM) on campus at all (I know from the other Texas board that you give him no credit for this either) should make him the best coach in A&M history.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but Sherman was a lot like Sumlin. Both had/have good to great offensive teams and incredibly shitty defenses. I think Sherman would have done just as well over the past two years as Sumlin, which isn't saying a whole lot being that you only won one game that you shouldn't have.

You think Jameill showers would have led us to as many wins as Johnny did in 2012? I disagree with you.

I think the jury is still out on sumlin and defense. He didn't have the bodies in 2013. Our d in 2012 was at least somewhat ok. Hell we held Bama to less than 140 rushing.

Next year will be telling.

couldnt you say the same about charlie strong and his win over florida?
Joe, you are a very nice guy and a good Ag. I don't take that lightly. However, it appears that you are implying that A&M and Louisville are comparable. Do you want to go into that, on a Longhorn bbs, seriously? I'm fairly certain that our Duke can back it up.

What 'da ya' think fellas', are A&M and Louisville comparable? Want ta' go there? Hoof and mouth disease F.O.R. T.H.E. W.I.N.!

I was comparing strongs tenure as Louisville head coach to sumlins tenure as A&M head coach.

Seems like you're reading a bit too much into my comment.

Damn! Joe seems to be dealing with a bunch of silly issues tonight.

One question, Joe. Any chance you are going to join us in Austin for our spring game? Not that I want a reputation for picking up the bar tabs of a lot of ags, but I have known a few over the years I count as friends (even though most of them aren't too pleased with me at the moment). Are you going to be able to meet us in Austin in two months?

I don't think I was, Joe. Please scroll up the thread, and you will see that someone else noticed the same thing.

I hope you do come to our Spring Game, it would be great to meet you.

There are a number of ags I hope come to Austin for our spring game. Joe, Telco and even cuppy should absolutely come to Austin for the game. I personally hope to show them a side of Austin that would make them wish they had tried harder in high school and could have been able to go to college in Austin. I hope we can show them a good enough time to warrant an invitation to join them in college station to party with them.

Manziel was a terrible passer even in first spring practice of Sumlin's tenure. The jump he made from that point on was flat out phenomenal, Sumlin has to get some credit for this development. Evans redshirted because he was so raw, difference makers at WR do not redshirt. He was a basketball player first, once again, all of his development took place under Sumlin. Offensive line- Joeckel and Matthews (overrated due to name) I'll give, Ogbuehi, Mike Matthews, Harrison, Compton have all had their development under Sumlin.
Okay - I'll play.

If what you say is all because of Sumlins coaching, then it follows that Mack Brown is responsible for the play of Vince Young, Colt McCoy, the Shipleys, David Thomas and Kenny Vacarro. Do you agree with this?

And, if you do, you will have to say that Mack Brown was a better coach then Sumlin - as he has the skins on the wall that Sumlin doesn't. Do you agree with this as well?

So, it follows even more that we just got rid of a coach that was better than what you have now - and we got rid of him because, in the last few years, he didn't meet the standards that was required of a UT coach. Standards that appear to be just fine at Collieville as that football broke school gave Sumlin a raise for a record no different, in the last couple of years, than Brown's.

It's mystifying, isn't it? :)

Sumlin's record at A&M at the time of the raise was 19-4. For a program that most people said would struggle to be bowl eligible once they moved to the SEC, I would consider him worthy enough to receive a substantial raise given he was in the bottom 2 or 3 in the SEC in terms of pay. Fact of the matter is that you must pay to keep coaches nowadays, especially with revenue skyrocketing across the NCAA, average salary has doubled in the past 10 years for head coaches in college football. With expectations so high and the proclivity of coaches to hop away at any moment, you need to pay these coaches to show that you are committed to the program (recruits and fans). Their is a good chance that our class gets raided quick if our administration sat on their hands and didn't give a raise. The rumor mill (false or true) connects Sumlin to the NFL and top notch college football programs, kids see that, and other schools use this as a recruiting ploy. We locked him up (nothing is a given) with a public raise that let everyone know that we consider him a top priority towards maintaining momentum, just like every other program would do if they had the means to do it.

Id love to make it to Austin for the spring game but obligations to two kids under three keep me pretty busy.

And randy it's funny you should say that because I often think how close I've been to being at ut through my life. I was accepted there for 2/3 of my degrees and hell I came damn close to working there.

A&M is playing UTSA twice later on this decade, a game that, by then, might not be as tasty for the Aggies as they'd like it to be, but a game which helps both programs. Im ok with giving a game to a decent mid major school in State, but not with scheduling four cream tarts a season OR with scheduling FCS schools when one considers itself as playing with the big boys.
