according to IT. Didn't go to New York due to the called Regents meeting on Thursday. Trouble is brewing. Supposedly meeting with Saban today.

Powers is meeting with Saban today?

Why would he be allowed to meet with Saban, and presumedly have a large sum of money on the table, if he is in trouble?

Other site is reporting the meeting is a show of support for Powers and to make sure everyone is on the same page moving forward.

JS wasn't sure if the meeting would be in person or on a conference call. Was trying to confirm it.

This is just my conjecture, but I was thinking that Hicks putting Powers' employment on the agenda was a shot to him to stand down or else...Obviously I have no idea if that's true, but if Hicks is one of the guys driving this train and wants to put Powers in his place, what better way to do it then this?

I don't think they are going to do anything to Powers over a coaching hire. He has and is doing too much for the University of Texas, but he also has to know that his support on the BoR is tenuous and this is a strong way of showing him who his boss is.

Burton agrees.

I've done some digging on the Board of Regents meeting set for Thursday.

I've been told by multiple sources that it is considered illegal by state law for the board to discuss any aspect of university athletics in a board of regents meeting unless the topic is specifically on the agenda.

In other words, there will absolutely be no discussion of athletics at the meeting.

However, I am told this BOR meeting is expected to be simultaneously a) a show of support for Powers and his presidency as well as B) a show of who truly holds the cards in the relationship between Powers and the BOR.

Bottom line, Powers works for the BOR.

There should be no mistake that Powers likes Mack Brown, wants Mack to remain as the head coach if he had his druthers and respects Mack because he has run a clean program that has never run afoul of the NCAA.

But Powers is risking being the lone wolf in that regard.

Looks like we'll be getting a new prez to go with our new AD and head football coach. Alright by me. :)

Some are hearing Powers is ok and no vote will be taken, but I do think this is a warning shot, but they are also supposed to also possibly discuss his compensation I believe. Hard to know

People on this board who say that the BOR, after having been instructed by the Legislature not to take any employment action against Powers during the impeachment hearings, will defy the Leg and fire the sitting Chair of the AAU because he wouldn't fire a football coach.

NOT.GOING.TO.HAPPEN.

We have not just become the Clampetts, some of us seem on the verge of going full aggy. Powers isn't going to stand up to the Governor to defend the academics of the University just to p!ss it all down the drain over the football coach.

You are such a breath of fresh air. I am amazed at how so many think Power's problems have anything to do with athletics?

the Open Meetings Act requires topics to be discussed to be on the agenda and posted at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.

I was just going to post word for word but you posted first.........So I think the same as you. What great Minds.

I agree. My first thought was, if Hicks was one of those voting in favor of retaining Powers, he could have put Powers on the BOR agenda as a strong arm tactic to get Powers to change his tune on Mack coming back and supporting Saban. The threat of losing one vote on the BOR could spell the end for Powers. Like in a lot of business deals, Hicks could be bluffing with his vote, but can Powers chance it.
