When a official announcement finally comes down it will be interesting when the new coach will be named. With the new NCAA dead period which now December 16th until January 15th where you cannot contact recruits. Just something to think about in the coming weeks as we wait for the "day"

We'll see.... lot of smoke and mirrors to sort through until then.

I feel based on what someone told me I trust is that Mack will indeed retire and won't be back in 2014.

The NCAA "dead period" sets up the perfect timeline

* Mack retires 12/9/13

* Bama plays MNC game on 1/6/14

* Saban accepts UT job sometime before 1/15/14

* National Signing Day 2/4/14

Only gives Saban 3 weeks, but I'm confident we don't lose anybody and maybe he gets a few late converts!

Okay, say Mack retires 12/9/13. What happens to the assistants? Who will keep contact with the recruits? Will there be considerable attrition in regards to the recruiting class between Mack's retirement and Saban's hiring? Just put me at ease and tell me this is much ado about nada.

Hopefully Saban wouldnt begrudge him for leaving Alabama to come here. Not a shot at Saban, but until now hes never really stuck around a place long enough for a "loyalty" issue to come up.

Exactly what I am thinking. Mack announces b4 dec 16 & new coach takes over b4 jan 15. Then hits it hard with the commits he wants to keep and new guys he wants to go after.

I think the last day of the NFL season is December 29. We could hire Harbaugh or a pro coach whos team didn't make the playoffs right after that.

Timing is going to be very interesting on things. It will create an unbelievable jolt to the program though. One we haven't seen in a long time.

I think the timing sounds about right. But I think if it is Saban he announces by the 10th. That is a Friday and will give him enough time to clean up anything at Bama and then be ready to go by the 15th. Any other college coach I would suspect it will be before then depending on what bowl they are coaching in unless they announce prior to the bowl.

Did Nick send Suddes over here a year early just to get things rolling? I know I am grasping at straws but I am looking to cover every angle.

1/15/2014 is D DAY and then on to National Signing Day with some surprises in recruits.
