I went to bed rather early for me last night due to having to be up at 3:15 for a 5 AM flight. I get up and turn the coffee on then the TV. That is when I started hearing about the shootings in Las Vegas.

I’ve since had some discussions with some of my business associates in Las Vegas. My main contact there was supposed to go to the concert last night with her husband, but they opted out last minute because of their kids’ activities. She has several friends in the hospital with gunshot wounds. Additionally, one industry associate lost his daughter in this tragedy.

I don’t want to focus on the dead coward of a shooter, but this was completely senseless. Hard to wrap your hands around something like this. I’ve stayed at the Mandalay, do quite a bit of business in that corridor of hotels/casinos and have been in that venue where these folks lost their lives. It’s similar to the Tower shooting from years ago.

My son has tickets to ACL coming up and as a parent, it concerns me. I’ve told him to be more aware of his surroundings and to keep an eye out for possible escape routes and where to take cover.

Kudos to the Las Vegas first responders, not only law enforcement and medical, but the citizens that helped the wounded and assisted in getting people to take cover. They appear to have helped limit further damage.

I know I’m a Little all-over-the-place with this, but it is hard not to be.

It is hard to stomach. Especially as a parent, it's difficult knowing that your children are vulnerable just about anywhere these days. It's a sad day.

Its sad this has turned into a political circus for some.

CBS VP Hayley Geftman-Gold makes a completely heartless message after the tragedy.

When I saw the news this morning I wanted to throw up. Absolutely sick to my stomach to see so much senseless violence. Prayers to the victims and their families.

This was scary to read about as it was happening last night....I was JUST in Vegas....my parents and my brothers and I had been there since Thursday and flew out Sunday morning.  Apparently, the guy checked into his hotel on Thursday.  It's really scary thinking about the fact that he was there the entire time we were.  Woke up this morning to text messages from family and friends wondering if we were still in Vegas and if we were ok, and that drove home the point even more of just how close this was to us.  My heart is in pieces thinking about the victims and their families and my condolences are with them.  Joeywa, I'm so sorry to hear about your colleagues.

my prayers are with the families affected.  everyone has an opinion and with social media you're gonna hear whether you agree with it or not.

Our only child was raped and murdered a few years back.  Your heart is ripped right out of you.  There is no way to lose a child that's easier than any other.

She was raised a Christian, and I believe with all my heart that she is with God and happier than she ever could be on Earth.  I stand firm on this belief, for it is what keeps me going and gives me hope that one day we'll be together again.

So  I pray for the families who lost loved ones, that they, too, turn to God for strength and guidance in their time of need.

UTFish,

I can only imagine what you and your family are going through.   Sorry for your loss.

UTfish, I'm so sorry to hear this.  As a father of 2 daughters I cannot imagine.  My thoughts and prayer are with you. Sorry for your loss.

UTfish, I have 2 daughters and can't imagine what you and yours are going through. God bless yall.

JoeyWA, so sorry to hear about your associate's daughter. May God be with that family during their time of sorrow.

Hillary just needs to go away, go walk in those woods again.

Thank you very much, my friends.  Your kind words and prayers are truly appreciated.

As one who's been there, my intent was simply to offer prayers of comfort and understanding for the grieving families as you and others have done for us.

Love you guys. (And Java, and Sho, and SFLonghorngirl...wherever you are...)

My heart truly hurt reading this. I have a daughter and I can’t even begin to wrap my mind around what your family has been through. Incredibly sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

So sorry @UTfish

As others, I cannot imagine the degree of sadness and loss. Kudos to you for your continued movement forward and dealing with this.

And thanks for the thoughts & prayers. This event in Vegas will affect many for a long time. I ran into an associate this morning at a conference that was at the concert on Sunday night. He is understandably shaken. To be honest, I’m not sure why he decided to come to the conference after that, but people deal with tragedy in different ways. His story about his experience was chilling. He’s very lucky.

Your daughter is with God as well as those people who passed do to this event.

My hope is that we can evolve (faster) as humans so we stop hurting each other the way we do.
