One REALLY good thing about delaying our HC change until this year.

Well, time to break my cherry on this board...

I don't know if anyone recognizes the paradigm shift from last year in the coach search list.

It just feels like a change last year would have resulted in going after either a "good" coach or a gamble coach, in other words a compromise coach. Last year we were hearing names at the top of the list like Patterson, Peterson, Fedora etc. Yes Saban, Meyer and tier one coaches were mentioned, but not with a lot of conviction since Mack still had a strong hand.

THIS year, with all the forces seemingly aligned and roadblock BMD's out of the way b/c they overplayed the Mack hand, we are hearing tier one names at the top of the attainable list like Saban, Carroll, Gruden, Tomlin, etc.

While we may have lost this year's battle with aggy for excitement and exposure, we may well win the war if our admin and BMDs play our cards right. We could definitely see our school negate being stuck in a crappy boring regional conference by bringing in a SWAT team of coaches that is compelling to watch no matter who we play.

I love what I hear from McP, Santa, JS and others on the new aggressive direction we want to take. However, I am still not banking on a move like this because I've seen how we operate this clownshow. Let's just say I am hoping optimistically to be surprised.

By the way, great new site guys. Love the unhindered discussion here. Now just to recruit a few of the others like EM, utx etc. I am sure they would like a place where the Belmont stalkers like LonghornDDS and the various Chris Jessie accounts will be dealt with.

I have no idea why anyone would want Gruden.

Obviously Saban would be the biggest "wow factor" but I don't think he's our best choice. He is obviously a phenomenal coach but he's also been extraordinarily lucky. Texas loses McCoy (and yet is within 3 with 3 minutes to go with a 5 turnover true freshman QB leading the team), he draws a plodding, impotent team in LSU (who had already beat him in an awful game. Oh and I think they beat 3 teams with winning records that year) and another dud in Notre Dame.

I htink Briles should be at the top of the list. A guy like Daje would probably be a Heisman contender with Briles at the helm.

On one hand it's ashame it took this long for critical mass to come together in order for us to get this thing moving forward again. On the other, you are right that there seems to be enough consensus for us to really go for it now. Of course, that is result of many, many factors aligning in our favor. Perry announces for President. Greg Abbott waits in the wings as the future Governor of Texas. Greg Abbott happens to be not only a Horn but a big time football fan who follows recruiting as closely as we do. Red McCombs and Joe Jamail are getting very old. A powerful young group of passionate BMD's have arrived on the scene. We have some very pro-UT sports guys on the BoR. Mack has pretty much worn everybody out with his bs and spin. The people who matter, many who gave Mack every benefit of the doubt, have given him enough rope at this point that they now clearly see through his schtick and recognize he only has Mack's best interests at heart not Texas' best interests.

Man it is good to have you all aboard!

I don't know, I think we could have wrapped Saban up last year?

It is Saban or bust as of right now unless you like Muuschamp? I think Briles goes to aggy.

The only way Briles goes to aggy is if Sulim bolts for Southern Cal, which I think is a decent possibility. Sumlin is at least 2 years of solid coaching away from NFL consideration so I'm not sure where else you're thinking.

Good post, it's almost like the Garth Brooks song Unanswered Prayers. We don't know who we would have gotten but it seems that the list is much better now.

No thanks on Muschamp. I am excited to see how it plays out.

We talk a lot about Mack's future but what about guys like Major Applewhite and Duane Akina? Applewhite has pull on campus and Akina is a guy that I woudn't mind see hanging around.

Interested to see how these guys fit in (or out) of the future at Texas.
