I will go a step further; they should face off in the octagon....with ring girls....in bikinis.

It's ridiculous that the treatment of the crossfire author is leading me to leave? I know the author. He didn't ask for more $. He is getting hosed and I won't support a site that treats a friend in this manner.

Trust me, I won't let the door hit me in the ass.
Are you the message board staff police for the human rights campaign? Are you his agent? There's no Kathy Lee Gifford running the show at Horn Sports. Football season is almost here. Quit whining and relish the imminent.

Well, at least there's that.

Listen, in a nutshell, HornSports wanted to go a different direction.  Aaron, as the majority owner, has the right to make whatever business decisions he sees fit for the long-term vision for his site.  We don't have to agree with it, we don't have to support it, and at the end of the day, we have complete autonomy to either be a premium member, a non-premium member, or not a member at all.

You are exercising your right to call it a day.  Don't blame it on "treatment of the crossfire author."  Take ownership of your decision to seek your information elsewhere and leave it at that.

I'm not going to speak for Darrell, nor Aaron, with regards to their conversations on this, but I will tell you that there were several and that both parties were able to discuss the vision rationally as businessmen.
The only reason I came to this site was Crossfire.  Then, with no warning or explanation, it disappeared.  What was the problem?  What is this different direction that HornSports wants to go?  At this point, there has been no clear answer to either of those questions.  This has been a textbook example of how not to handle a change in direction for an organization.

Obviously we are talking about minimal amounts of subscriber money here, but it would have been nice if management had stepped forward immediately to explain what was happening and why.  Instead, subscribers were greeted with silence, I assume because management hoped the problem would simply disappear with no explanation required on their part.  Unfortunately, that's not a good way to build good will with your subscriber base.

I remain a subscriber, but I'm not impressed with the management of this site so far.

has it really? when there's a parting of the ways within your company, are the reasons always broadcast? they aren't in any i've worked at.

if a sports anchor leaves a network, an actor leaves a series, a writer leaves a newspaper, do they go in depth why? no they give some generic explanation that protects both parties often with some form of compensation involved. i suspect that was the case here.

at the end of the day, what difference does the reason make? if you were here only for crossfire and it n longer exists, is there any reason that wold satisfy you?

I'm not going to argue with you...management of this site has chosen to drop, with no explanation, the one feature that provided something unique.  I see no way that HornSports is going to compete effectively with Orangebloods, 247, or Inside Texas without the personal relationship that Darrell McPhaul provided.

I'm going to hang around, but I see nothing that is going to make this site increase its subscriber base after this unexplained decision.

67, was neither looking for or hoping for an arguement. we each make our own calls on which sites to patronize.

i find this site unique but for the community it brings unlike OB (can't speak for the others). with a couple of notable exceptions, this seems like a bunch of easy-going, good guys (and gals) just wanting to talk UT sports. Breaking news...inside scoop...nah, not so much.

That's fine...but a small group of easy-going guys and gals just wanting to talk UT sports isn't going to keep this site operating for very long.  I also like the easy-going nature compared to the sharks that circulate through Orangebloods, but numbers are numbers, and there are bottom-line numbers that have to be met.  I just think that throwing away one of the key features that drew people like me to this site isn't a wise business decision.

Time will tell...

no clue what the mission statement or goals of this site are from a content or profit standpoint.  just along for the ride.

Okay here is my take on this rather entertaining thread.

1. We got premium info, we just call in "Burnt Ends" now. Writers like myself and others on the website are contributing as a team giving what we are learning throughout the week. Instead of singling out 1 guy as the "source" guy (eg. Chip when he was at OB IMO), we all help each other out and go in as one. I have contributed some of the info as many others. It's a team approach that I hope will work out for the best.

2. It's a transition period. Things are rough at this point like in any transition. This website has gone so far in a year, it's astounding. We have had great people contribute over the years who have decided in one form or another that they aren't contributing anymore. Then we have brought in some amazing talent that ran other Texas websites that wanted to be a part of something special. And I believe we have and starting on Friday, it will be kicked into overdrive.

So while I understand this post to some will sound like Kevin Bacon in Animal House saying "All is Well!" However, I don't believe it is the majority of members feeling this way anymore. If you want, my email is in my signature. Email me anything you want. I love critiques because I see it as a way to improve what I am doing. Thats me but I am not everyone but I wouldn't be doing this is I didn't love it and thought it brought a different perspective to UT athletics than what has been shown in the past.

I too am one of those who came to this site because of Darrell and his connections.  I admit that I am very disappointed that he is no longer doing Crossfire and have given serious thought to cancelling my subscription.  What keeps me here is the level of civility amongst the posters and the overall camaraderie.  Several of the posters here are also on other boards like OB, etc, but the level of derision of some posters towards others (on OB) makes me want to strangle some of the most offensive ones.

Several of the posters here make it feel like a "home" of a sort, and others, like me, don't add much to inside info or insightful posts.

If it comes to the point where Joeywa ever considers leaving then I will know this place has hit bottom and it will be time to bail.

I do. As others have noted, this site is far less juvenile than the others, with far less Jr High level behavior from posters. I for one appreciate that. I appreciate it enough to come here and not to the other sites, except when linked to them by some interesting post placed here. Inside info is only one way to compete.

I have to agree with ATX. I know, and appreciate, that many of you enjoy the banter, etc, and I agree that this site is much friendlier than TOS. Personally, I am not drawn to the conversations. I joined this site to read Darrell McPhaul and Crossfire. I will add that I subscribe to another site only to read Jesus Shuttlesworth and Inside the Humidor. When these featured articles are canceled, then my subscription will be canceled. Like ATX, I paid in full for a one year subscription. If possible, I request a pro-rated refund. If this is not possible, make damn sure that you don't automatically charge me for next year.

I just received a call from a customer of mine who has been with me for several years. Great guy, big time Longhorn. Attends all home and away games.

I would not post this if he had not requested that I do as I've tried to stay out of this matter. But he came to HS because I recommended he (and many others) did. He stayed at HS because of McPhaul and Crossfire. He left when it stopped appearing although he tells me he comes back to read the landscape thread (right, ha ha).

He bought a year membership but tells me he likely won't come back much now. He said that if HS intends to be a news and community site only, the news side of that would likely not compare to what others are already doing. Loves the community but that in itself isn't enough to stay.

FWIW

It pains me to see some leaving and other contemplating it.
