Must Read The Deck is Being Shuffled

I just can't imagine why, if Saban is close to being locked in, Texas (and Sexton) wouldn't perpetuate any illusion of Fisher still having a shot, if for no other reason than to keep the media at bay. Maybe it is pure cockiness, but I imagine half a dozen tier one HC's lining up for a piece of the Longhorn pie, and I don't imagine the behind-the-scenes interview/vetting/negotiation process is nearly as complicated as it plays out on message boards. Either this position is filled or we've got our eye on somebody and have a number two locked in in case the sought after coach shoots us down... and why that somebody would be Charlie Strong is beyond me. Fisher made sense. His 'stock falling' just doesn't compute for me. Either the shuffling of the deck is a load of horse crap to keep everybody from paying attention to the man behind the curtain, or... I don't even know. I'm thinking we get an announcement by Friday, and if not, I'm calling the doctor for some xanax.

My guess is NORTHTEXHORN probably got info from here and twisted the question to suit his desire for Saban. I don't think there will be another article. Just a guess.

My very first thought.

One observation: These folks told us all types of information would start to fly today...and it has.

DUCK!

Hook 'em!

It's an interesting time. A few of us said on monday when the Saban info dropped to be prepared for a wealth of rumors to follow. The day after Christmas we hear Saban is dead, Franklin is rising, Fisher is lead dog, now Strong in the top 3.

At one point the top 3 had been Saban, Fisher, & Malzahn. All represented by the same agent. Malzahn quickly fell back, IMO because he's the least qualified and desired of the 3. Now we are hearing Fisher is losing ground. Tapped phone lines and emails would be awesome at this point. Could there be some stock in Sexton backing off 2 of his clients, sure. My source hasn't wavered on Saban since October.

Get ready, after tomorrow the misdirection is going to get heavier. This is only the beginning.

Texas has to have a minority coach in the pool of potential HC's. It's just good PR if nothing else. Besides, when the next coach is hired, and then eventually retires, perhaps Charlie Strong would be your #1 choice. It shows respect to make inquiries with his agent.

Charlie Strong will be 54 before the next season kicks off. Only 4 coaches have won national championships at the age of 60 or older since 1960. Those 4 are Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, Joe Paterno, and Bobby Bowden. If Strong is to be hired, history suggests he's peaking right now, and now is the time to pull the trigger. In 4-5 years Charlie Strong would not be a hire that you make for longevity. History is not on his side.

Based on those age numbers the only sure fire coach out there who's clock is ticking is Nick Saban. He is one of the GOATs. You know with a Saban hire you are probably going to get 4-7 years max. If you can't get Saban we need to be looking 50 or younger IMO.

The only constant seems to be Saban is #1 no matter what deck chairs rearrange behind him. Even with mcpauls diff source and Jesus has been hearing the same re Saban at the top. May mean something. May not. Fisher not leaving things twisting in the wind while he plays for a title if he thinks he's not getting the Job could make sense

I think we are seeing another smoke screen going into play. MB is going to think he is getting attacked from all sides and the real battle is already over. The sooner MB gets out of Texas the sooner the Longhorn Football team can be righted. my friends y'all have a great week

Interesting. What happened?? Is Fisher saying he's not interested?
That may be what McPhaul meant, but that's not what he said. Disinterest in the HC position wouldn't make his stock fall.

Could it be that Fisher got word that Saban is taking the job? They do have the same agent. Just a thought.
Sexton is not going to remove any of his clients as candidates for the HC position until an official announcement is made. Too many things can happen before it becomes official.

It is just a lot of smoke fellas, it will all be ok....just don't inhale and you will be fine.

247 reported this AM that Fisher's new contract had not been signed but that FSU was going to up the annual pay to $5 million from the low $4 million range.

Interesting. Fisher is 1a or in the lead according to sources and last night he starts to fall and then gets another bump in salary. Sexton doing work again. He scares the living crap out of FSU and they come up with more money.

Sexton is doing a helluva job with all this. Saban got a raise, Jimbo is gonna get one as well unless he comes to Texas. I wonder how many more Sexton Clients are be looked at for the Texas job? All of them stand to receive a nice bump in pay.

Seems like Sexton is using Texas to get a bigger paycheck for his coaches and himself. Guy is making bank no matter what.

Sexton seems to be the puppet master for sure
