A LOOK AT THE COWBOYS—[SIZE=9pt]McNeese State lost two of three at home to Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend…offensively, the Cowboys are led by Andrew Bryan (.323) and Shane Selman (.310)…Selman has a team-high six homers and 18 RBI on the year…on the mound, Zach Rider has 11 appearances in relief and a team-best 2.41 ERA.[/SIZE]

A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—[SIZE=9pt]After winning 7-of-8 following a five-game losing skid, Texas lost its first Big 12 Conference series, dropping two of three on the road at K-State…the Longhorns fell, 5-2, in game one…in game two, Texas was down to its final out, trailing 10-3, when they scored seven runs to pull the game even…K-State would eventually walk it off on a single in the bottom of the ninth…on Saturday[/SIZE], the Longhorns fell behind, 5-2, but rallied for another seven-run inning to take the series finale and salvage a game in the series.

BREAK OUT MCGUIRE—[SIZE=9pt]In his first start since April 22, 2014, Andy McGuire had a breakout game…the redshirt-junior went deep for his first career home run in his first at-bat…he’d add two more hits in the game and finished with 3 RBI…on Saturday[/SIZE], he added another 3-RBI game that included a bases-loaded double to pull Texas to within one…McGuire also moved from right field to the mound with two outs in the eighth and tossed 1.1 perfect innings for his second save of the year.

 

GO DJ, THAT’S MY DJ—[SIZE=9pt]After the first five attempted stolen bases against him were successful, junior catcher DJ Petrinsky has caught 8-of-11 since, improving his caught stealing percentage to [/SIZE][SIZE=9pt]50% for the season.[/SIZE]

 

CAN’T STOP CLEMENS—[SIZE=9pt]Clemens went 0-for-5 last Tuesday night, snapping his 26-game reached base streak and his nine-game hitting streak, but went 5-for-12 with 3 doubles over the weekend…the junior has opened the 2018 campaign on a tear…he began 2018 with a 13-game hit streak, the longest for a Longhorn since Madison Carter’s 15-game streak in 2014…Clemens has amassed 24 walks to 18 Ks on the season, is 3-for-4 in stolen bases, and holds a team-best 1.157 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage)…he hit his 7th homer of the year on March 24 vs. Oklahoma State, a new career-high after hitting 5 in 54 games last season…his .680 slugging percentage ranks 2nd in the Big 12 Conference…he leads the team in HR (7), average (.359),  walks (24), and OBP (.477).[/SIZE]

 

TATE IS GREAT—[SIZE=9pt]Tate Shaw recorded 3 multi-hit games over the weekend, finishing with a .375/.545/.500 line with 5 RBI for the week…he hit a bases-clearing three-run double with 2 outs in the 9th inning [/SIZE]on Saturday to tie the game…last Tuesday night at Texas State, leadoff hitter Tate Shaw went 0-for-1 but reached base safely four times, including three HBPs…no Longhorn had been hit with a pitch three times in a game since Ben Johnson on May 1, 2015…he has improved his batting average to .299 on the season with a .404 OBP.
