Couldn't help but notice the media labeling Manzeil's time of 4.68 as "blazing" and "impressive". When Vince ran a 4.58 I remember reading "disappointing" and "surprising".

4.68 is hardly blazing. It's good, especially for a QB but c'mon. Derek Carr ran faster if I'm not mistaken.

So much hype.

johnnys unofficial time was a 4.56. carrs was a 4.65.

apparently his shuttle time of 4.03 was more impressive and more reflective of his game speed/playing style

His official time is 4.68. My unofficial time is 4.15.

4.68 is a good time, not exceptional or really all that noteworthy. It's nowhere near blazing.

Derek Carr ran a 4.69. Three Quarterbacks had a quicker 40 time than Manziel. Those being Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech), Stephen Morris (Miami) and Connor Shaw (South Carolina). However, Manziel did blow every other Quarterback in the draft out of the water in his 20 Yard Shuttle. I don't recall seeing Vince Young criticized for his combine performance outside of his wonderlic test score and throwing motion. But that was almost eight years ago so I could have forgotten a thing or two.

I don't know that I remember folks saying that manziels 40 time was blazing. I was actually surprised he wasn't at 4.5 flat.

All of VY's unofficial times were in the 4.4's.

When I went to look up JM's time the headlines were "blazing" and "impressive". It's not blazing and I'm not sure it's all that impressive. It's good (so I guess I'd let "impressive" slide).

I remember reading quite a bit about VY's 4.58 being surprisingly slow. Guess I could go look and see. For sure a topic on message boards at the time.

i'd like to think that i could break 6.

but i'd also probably end up looking something like this

Who cares how fast a QB can run a 40. How fast is Manning, Brady even my man Troy was never considered fast. I want to know can they make the throws and read the defense. I am disappointed Johnny did not throw. He said he wants to be the man and win Super Bowls but he didn't show off his arm. Shame on him.

Shuttle time showed manziels quickness. I bet his 3 cone drill was good as well. Manziel is also much stronger than a person might suspect. I can think of a number of times when he trucked dbs/lbers. A bunch of times where the dude that hit him got hurt and manziel hopped up just fine. I was always surprised at his strength when watching him. He still has a weak nfl arm anf every time i saw him throw it 30+ yds they were basically case mccoy style flutters which wont work on the nfl everytime i saw him scramble he would hold the vall away from his body with a one handed grip, that will be a turnover every time in the league. I never saw him read a d because he was always running after the first read or when he felt pressure, whichever came first.

Every NFL team cares. He's under 6' tall and nobody is drafting him to be a pocket passer in the mold of Peyton Manning. He's being drafted for what he brings to the table in terms of his playmaking ability.

It's all about how they run with pads on and defenders chasing and I think JF has proven his abilities beyond a straight line 40 time.

I agree. This wasn't so much a knock on his time, which I stated was good, it's about Manziel's spell on the media. He's an electrifying college football player. One of the most exciting ever, along with Vince, Vick, Mcnair, etc.
