Has reopened his recruitment. No surprise at all. The smoke has been brewing around him for awhile. Alabama is the likely destination.

Tennison is the one recruit I was hoping Charlie would cut loose and my concerns were over the allegations of Tennison's enjoyment of recreational cocaine.

After the 2014 and 2015 campaigns, back stepping on character issues would be insane.

This guy is from my neck of the woods. Watched him play in some ball games last season and he is a great athlete....just not a guy I thought would fit with Texas.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I haven't seen or heard this be brought up in conversations I've had about Major since he committed awhile back.
I don't want us to run with allegations of that nature (or any really) when it comes to a kid's character if it hasn't been found to be legit.

Since there's really nothing left to say about the kid, may I inject that today is Jerry Sisemore's birthday?

I don't know if the story is true or not, but the allegations were troublesome to me. There were a number of fhem from people I consider to be cautious and respectable. I'm sure Coach Strong looked into them.

I hope Tennison does well at Alabama. I don't see him as much of a loss. As I said, he is the one recruit I was hoping didn't end up at Texas.

there's a fine line between internet allegations and guilty beyond reasonable doubt.  i say fine.  oh, about the thickness of a kardashian cheek.

the great beauty for us fans is it didn't matter.  charlie had this, and i have complete faith in his judgment.  after all, he has just a tad more info than we do.  tad?  oh, about the size of a certain trump ego.  the great shakeout would be our continued recruitment, and i don't see evidence of our backing off.

regardless, if the allegations are on target, there's no way the guy would last here very long at all, and he would have to know that.

shame on the people repeating rumors.  that's just plain bad.

Why would you bring something like that up ? What is this? TexAgs ?

I brought it up because character should be a legitimate concern.

The reality is that a lot of people are tired of all the drama around the program over the past few years. If Coach Strong survives to coach another year, it will be by the skin of his teeth.

A new offensive system with a true freshman QB and some major questions on the defensive line doesn't usually indicate the team can be expected to get off on a hot start. The best case is that the team wins 7 or 8 and makes it to a bowl game, with things at the end of the season coming together well and indicating improvement.

The last thing Charlie Strong needs is more problems. Tennison has had a cloud over him for questions about involvement in the drug culture at his school and has been expected to decommit for at least a month by a number of individuals.

There is nothing Tennison could have done over at least the next 15 months that will even be mildly positive for the program. But there are things he could do much sooner that could cause problems to one degree or another. With Coach Strong limping through the season, hoping for luck to start falling his way, the last thing he needs is some bonehead recruit doing something and making people question whether Coach Strong was paying any attention to the rumors that had been swirling around Tennison for a long time.

If the kid was unfairly being gossiped about, he was still a problem recruit who seemed to be looking for another program. If he was rightfully being gossiped about, he was a ticking time bomb. Charlie doesn't need more problems. Tennison seemed to be a problem to one degree or another. If there was any chance he was either a ticking time bomb or a probably late flip, I am glad he is gone.

This UT program is so far from where it needs to be, any recruit who is a potential problem needs to identified quickly. The goodwill simply isn't there for Coach Strong to invite problems upon himself. The on-field performance needs to improve measurably. The APR needs to be brought up. There has been reasonable discussion about encouraging players to undertake majors that will better prepare them for a post-football life. All three of those issues are ambitious.

If the Alabama academic and disciplinary profile better fit Tennison's work ethic, he did Charlie Strong a favor by decommitting now. I get the sense they do. And because of that, I have no problem with the fact he is no longer a UT commit. There are recruits that we have to be lucky to have missed out on. Tennison has long been one of the commits I thought we would be better off missing out on. Lampkin was another and so was Daylon Mack. I think Texas lucked out on missing all three.

You went on this rant over an internet rumor that hasn't even been substantiated by anyone.

Just stop.

"If the kid was unfairly being gossiped about, he was still a problem recruit who seemed to be looking for another program." Do you not understand how recruiting works at all? You do understand that Strong tells recruits to look at other programs, right?

I still feel very comfortable believing this is one recruit we were lucky to avoid.

If your position is I am not entitled to have an opinion, I will respectfully disagree.

You are entitled to have an opinion. I just think your opinion is terrible on this subject.

I'm not upset about losing Tennison but it's not because he has "character" issues.
