Longhorns win 22nd-straight against Texas Tech in Austin

Kerwin Roach had a career night, scoring 20 points, and Mo Bamba tallied his eighth double-double on the season (15 points, 11 rebounds) as the Longhorns knocked off #8 Texas Tech at home on Wednesday evening.  The win against the Red Raiders was the 22nd consecutive in the Frank Erwin Center. Texas Tech last won in Austin during the 1995-1996 season, when both teams were in the Southwest Conference.

Dylan Osetkowski scored 12 points in the contest, and Eric Davis and Matt Coleman each scored 9 and 8 points respectively.  Bamba recorded 5 blocks on the night.

Jarrett Culver led the Red Raiders in scoring with 16 points, while Zhaire Smith and Brandone Francis each had 13 points in the loss to Texas.

The Longhorns shot 51.1% from the field compared to Texas Tech’s 38.2%. Texas shot 40% from three-point range and 71.4% from the free-throw stripe.

With the win against the Red Raiders, Texas improved to 12-7 overall (3-3, Big 12). Texas Tech, ranked 8th in both the AP and Coaches Polls, fell to 15-3 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play.

The Longhorns will face West Virginia in Morgantown on Saturday at 1:00 pm.  The game will be televised on CBS.

Side note – Huge props to the Texas Tech Program for supporting Andrew Jones as they donned warm-up jerseys in his honor.

Impressive win for Texas. Having Kerwin Roach back made everyone’s job a little bit easier. Roach’s ability to defend the perimeter can’t be matched by anyone else on the team. It’s no coincidence that Texas struggled to defend the perimeter the 2 games he missed, and then turned in one of their best defensive performances of the year with him back on the court:

Roach is also unafraid of slashing to the basket. He's pretty creative offensively.

Shooting 51% from the field and 40% from the 3s against one of the best defenses in the nation is good. Need to improve on TOs and would like to see the FT% higher though.

Quite honestly, this may be the most athletic Texas team I have ever seen!  Why are we not elite?  Shooting 3s / free throws, Shooting 3s / free throws, Shooting 3s / free throws.
