An that's my problem with the playoff committee--they don't look at how strong the team is at the end of the season, they only look at the record. You are penalized for every game you lose, no matter who you play, and on the flip side, you are rewarded for every win, no matter who you play.

I'm afraid that with Miami at the #10 ranked team last year getting to the finals is going to push for at least 4 more teams to join the playoffs for a 16 tam format.

4 teams was good. Maybe 8 teams could be better, if you pick the right teams. But 12, so far hasn't proven anything but greed.
As a fan I like the 12 team format. Sixteen teams would still generate some good football, Its not like I could afford to go attend any of the games, but 24 is ludicrous. The Big 10 is pushing this so they will get more teams in the mix. They know as it sits right now that the SEC would dominate the field as far as number of entrants is concerned.

Because of the automatic bids the best 12 don't get in to the playoff, that is why the field needs to be expanded. The goal needs to be to put the teams with legitimate chances in the playoffs, due to the automatic bids that means including other teams that have no chance. However the real sin is not included some teams that get killed in rd 1, it is leaving out teams like Texas and Notre Dame that could have won but were pushed out of the political automatic bids. I think 16 at minimum

The selection committee has an impossible job, with every team having different schedules, and peaking at different times. There will always be difficult decisions on selection and seeding, but the more teams you have, the less it matters.

16 teams seems like a good number to me, but perhaps 24 teams may give teams enough leeway be comfortable schedule marquee OOC games.

Since CFB decisions are mostly driven by money(aka greed), I predict they will move to a 24 team playoff field.

some of you older farts may remember the 1968 Texas team. They started 0-1-1. Street replaced Bradley to run that new fangled wishbone and Texas did not lose a game for 3 years. Anyway, that 1968 team might have been the best of that era, although both the 1969, and 1970 teams both won National Championships. By the end of that season (1968) Texas was unstoppable. No way they would have been considered with a 9-1-1 record in that day of "beauty Pageants"....but in a playoff they might well have won everything. We absolutely routed Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl.
