SignUp Now!Good question. The NIL will bring up all kinds of new issues of exactly what is and what is not allowed. Here's a thought. With all the NIL mechanisms in place at the more affluent schools, what if a school like Texas could recruit a 5 star without offering a scholarship? How would that affect recruiting and roster limits.
"Hey, we can guarantee you six or seven figures but you pay for your education."
The NCAA won’t have any control over any football program that doesn’t want them to soon. The NCAA is a cartel whose time has past. The athletes aren’t indentured servants who have to serve 3 years before they’re free to earn a living. Just saying.Good question. Will a booster be able to pay players arbitrary amounts for appearances that take minimal time? Will the boosters be able to reward players based on performance targets? Unless or until the NCAA spells out exactly what is allowed and what is not we will see all kinds of crazy schemes.
The 85 limit would stop this only 85 players ship or walkonsstill85 as I understand the rule. Here's a thought. It's 85 scholarships and up to 125 active playersThe 85 limit would stop this only 85 players ship or walkonsstill85 as I understand the rule.
I think you are missing the point. With NIL in place, the bag men concerns are no more. The under the table payments are now over the table and Texas will take part in that just as much as any SEC team.NIL is supposed to help Texas recruit. Then they are joining a conference where bag men has existed for years. If they cheated then why not now?
Its going to be a big mess with no help from NCAA. Most are happy now will it stay that way.
IMO the only to recruit big time is win and thats about to get harder.
Thats true, but they never were indentured servants. They were given a platform to develop and grow their talents and also to showcase those talents on a national level – while obtaining a free education worth tens of thousands of dollars. The NCAA won’t have any control over any football program that doesn’t want them to soon. That nostalgic time were everyone was a student athlete didn’t exist. Of course there was a percentage of student athletes on each team. But colleges have worked to get kids in college who had no hope of thriving as a student because they wanted the athlete. Colleges had people take the SAT/ACT for the athlete transcripts were doctored in the name of football. I saw it at my high school to players who went to okie and a&m in 1980. It’s been going on for a long time.Thats true, but they never were indentured servants. They didn't arrive on campus ready for the NFL.
There was once this term called "student athletes." It meant something because as a student, you were representing the school you were investing your future with.
It seems what we're contemplating or what is transpiring is much different than that. And I'm not sure thats a good thing.
Maybe I am but a pro. bagman with years of experence can beat an amature every time.I think you are missing the point. With NIL in place, the bag men concerns are no more. The under the table payments are now over the table and Texas will take part in that just as much as any SEC team.
Winning is huge for recruiting, but realize, coming in 3rd or 4th in the SEC once the playoff expands probably means you are in.
Yes those two schools have cheated for a long time. There was a highprecentage of student aths, in fifties and sixties Cheaters became more active and SMU payed the price for all. That nostalgic time were everyone was a student athlete didn’t exist. I am sure there have been many that fit this description. I remember when the media bemoaned the player from Arkansas that signed an X on his contract with the Chargers because he could not read or write legibly. Probably more common stuff over the years than we would like to admit or even know about. That nostalgic time were everyone was a student athlete didn’t exist.
