Longhorn great, Pete Lammons drowns

Saw that on the Texas Fishing Forum. Wondering if he had a heart attack or stroke. Just doesn't make much sense otherwise.

one of my friends is a Pro bass angler and said Mr Lammons just had a few stents put in just a few days before the tournament, and thats what they think happened because the Pro Angler he was paired with was unable to lift him out of the water, and was reportedly trying to hang on to the side of the boat..Very sad situation....obviously was not wearing a PFD

Thanks for sharing that info. I'm sure whoever was with him did their best, but without knowing the circumstances, it's hard to imagine not being able to reach something to secure to his wrist. He was a big guy though and would have been difficult to handle, especially if he was fighting to get back in the boat.

My brother-in-law held on to a tree top for 12 hours after his boat sank in Toledo Bend. He is a big guy too, and he was exhausted by the time I found him. It was all I could do to get him in my boat and I was pretty stout then.

Did they not have a PFD or 2 on the boat to throw to him so he could at least float? Man,  a boat should always have them even if they don't wear them.

If he was having chest pain his muscles tensed up decreasing his buoyancy and he probably went underwater quickly.

another Longhorn legend passed away....All SWC RB Jim Bertelesen #35 1969-71....the greatest thing to come from Wisconsin since Longhorn cheddar cheese according to one TX beat writer...Bertelsen was the starting HB in the Wishbone and known as a slashing runner and devastating blocker...he was part of that infamous backfield on the '69 National Championship team that included Street (QB) Worster (FB) Koy (HB) Bertelsen (HB)..he also had a short career with the LA Rams....thanks for the thrills #35 Hook Em
