You would be surprised how many fall through the cracks, particularly at big schools. I spent an hour tutoring a kid (Freshman) about 2 weeks ago, and he made an A on the next test. I tutored him in a room without other students so there would be no distractions. He is smart, but not a clue how to learn or focus. I had tutored him before, but with a room full of other students, and it did no good, so we tested him in a room with only one other student. In larger schools, you don't have that luxury. I've worked at both.
That A he made was the second highest grade in the class. There is no question that he can do it, if other outside influences don't get to him. btw, he is a very good athlete.
I really hate to hear this about this young man. All the best to him.
