No longer a Texas commit and likely to have to go the junior college route per Justin Wells of Inside Texas.

We didn't want this to come out before it needed to be stated, but it's out there now.

From some other things I've read, the young man is very troubled. Best of luck to him and I hope he finds his way in life.

Pass along our prayers and thoughts.

Tell him to apply himself, seek all academic help they offer.

I feel for some of these kids. Probably smarter than most of us but never had anyone there to encourage him and stay on him about his studies.

Hope he thrives and gets back to D1 opportunity.
He and Sam have been the biggest fans of the program and never waivered on their commitment. Hopefully he gets some good people in his life and figures it out. Good luck to the young man.

I feel for these kids b/c they have to live with a "dumb" stigma that is leveed by "smart" people that believe testing equals intelligence and throws this blanket of judgment on everyone.  I hope he takes advantage of extending his athletic career at the JUCO level and gets his opportunity at a 4 year university after that.

I know a lot of smart people without college degrees and a lot of idiots with college degrees (cough*TAMU*cough).

Carson wasn't asked to prove he was smart. He was asked to show he could meet a set of minimum requirements in academic achievement and in personal behavior.

You would be surprised how many fall through the cracks, particularly at big schools.  I spent an hour tutoring a kid (Freshman) about 2 weeks ago, and he made an A on the next test. I tutored him in a room without other students so there would be no distractions.  He is smart, but not a clue how to learn or focus.  I had tutored him before, but with a room full of other students, and it did no good, so we tested him in a room with only one other student.  In larger schools, you don't have that luxury.  I've worked at both.

That A he made was the second highest grade in the class.  There is no question that he can do it, if other outside influences don't get to him.  btw, he is a very good athlete.

I really hate to hear this about this young man.  All the best to him.

Maybe you should offer more help to kids from lower socio-economic suburbs.... oh wait you elected trump

That's just uncalled for noonan. Do you really think if Hillary was elected the he magically would have made the grades to get in to UT. Come on man you should be better than that. Bullshit statements like that are what keep driving a wedge between us. We are one nation and one people. I love this country and hope one day we can unite. Be part of the solution not part of the problem. God bless America, God bless Texas and 🤘

Is this overwhelming outpouring of melancholy well wishes just for a kid who isn't going to be able to qualify academically for Texas.... or is there something else that people are dancing around and not saying?  Kids go to JUCO all the time (athletes / nonathletes).... heck, I went to JUCO.... Somehow I managed to go through life without struggling to overcome the dumb tag?  Maybe I was just too dumb to know people were making fun of me?

The former happens all the time so I guess it is the later and there is something else out there that people are too classy to type out on a free public forum?  That's cool I guess.

I don't know why anyone tries to equate a poor socio-economic background with inadequate academic performance. Google Thomas Sowell and/or Dr. Ben Carson to read how they were raised. Learn anything?

Going the juco route isn't the end of the world.
