Kind of an ugly stat for WVU

Which means they will win the Big 12 in the year 2050 if they are lucky. Not a stat I would want to see if I were West Virginia. Take a look at Arkansas. They have never won the SEC outright. When you play with giants the dwarf in you becomes more apparent.

That is an ugly stat ...I'll be the first to admit it. But when it comes to stats, sometimes you have to dig deeper.

The time period mentioned above was arguably, to WVU fans, one of the worst in Mountaineer history. We were just coming off Rich Rodriguez's tenure which really placed us on the national map. And on a drunken night in Arizona after the Fiesta Bowl, our then athletic director hired Bill Stewart.

That sat well with about 5% of our fans.

Stewart changed EVERYTHING. What was a high-powered offense quickly became I-formations, double tightends, and completely ultra conservative. Add into the fact the coaching staffs decision making was about as ludicrous as allowing my 5 year old daughter to drive a car, it was undoubtedly a complete nightmare.

Don't get me wrong, the players didn't perform up to their expectations. But they were asked to flip a switch they couldn't handle. It was like asking a young, athletic NBA team to play half court. It wasn't in their DNA.

Hopefully this gives you a little "background" on that stat. Because if you didn't know, it would smack you in the face.

Hey, the Arkansas comparison is not a knock-down. The Hogs have been a damn fine team for a number of years even though they have not won the conference. I hate them more than words can explain but they are a quality program.

Thanks for the insight. It is always good to know the facts behind the #s.

The West Virginia guys are making excuses already! What's it going to be next year when they finish 4th or 5th in the conference? Will they blame the Big 12? LOL.

He isnt making any excuses. And Mengus22 forgets we won the Big East the last 2 years. We didnt get the BCS big in 2010 but still tied for Big East champs. I AM NOT bragging about that, just stating that a random tweet does not tell the whole story.

I assure you I'm not making excuses. For those that know me from my site, and Scout.com, I'm often critical of the team. I'm not one of those fans who doesn't find fault in the players.

But as I mentioned, that stat doesn't tell the whole story.

I cannot wait for football season! Jonathan is a solid dude who knows WVU football is is objective. We appreciate the insight buddy and I think most of us respect the product that is West Virginia. As far as stats are concerned and the ugliness of them... well, you can find one with every team in this league. As far as the league strength I think we have a handful of teams that are hovering at the top - all of which could conceivably win the conference. West Virginia is one of those teams but so is Texas and OU. Can't wait.
