JUCO QB JAKE HUBENAK  is tearing it up at Blinn right now.  4,108 yards and 48 touchdowns his senior season in HS and 504.9 passing yards per game at Blinn.

His hometown is Georgetown, TX.

Anyone have any updates regarding this kids interest in Texas?

Every fan of a team with an unsettled QB situation is going out of there way to post about this Hubenak kid - and yet the only interest he has is from teams I could suit up and play QB for.

I think it has to do with him being able to get the required hours in before he can transfer.  He states that has held back his offers.

I dont know enough about the kid but I am sure Im not the only fan on this forum baffled by the mediocre QB play this late into the season.

Not sure if linking to the article on another recruiting site is frowned upon here or not.

Look like he might be the real thing. We sure need to take a close look at him, and hope he gets the hours done.

He was the QB when Georgetown lost to Guyer and Heard. I'm sure he's a good kid and I wish him well. However Heard was the best QB/player that day and I would bet he still is.

I went to high school with this kid, a couple years ahead.  He was the real deal in high school, but tore his ACL his junior year, I think, which put him behind in the recruiting process.  Everything I know or have heard about him points to him being a high character kid who is quite the talent and very hard working.

I don't follow the JUCO much, but everything I have read on this kid says he would be a good fit. Would be great if we could get a talented JUCO to come in here, especially a local one!

I wonder how far he is behind on his hours. It seems pretty late in the game to try and get him in before Spring practice.

I work with the the wife of this kid's HS coach. Sounds like a good kid with a head on his shoulders. He had a fantastic senior year in HS, not sure why he didn't have viable scholarship offers and walked on at Ok st. I say bring him on board if he finishes the required class hours to transfer in. His story sounds a little Drew Brees-ish in that an ACL injury junior year limited college looks and UT did not recruit him. We all know Brees was awful at Purdue and has been a huge failure in the NFL. Of course, my parallels don't mean this kid will be equal to Brees, but who knows!

Had to add the thought that Blinn seems to churn out talented QBs who later excell at the FBS level. Correct me if I am wrong: Cam Newton, Michael Bishop, the Auburn guy (?), and others? Blinn seems to have good coaching and production from the QBs at the JC level.

Sometimes the best high school player does not translate to the best college player. But we need depth and competition. If he qualifies and we can get him, bring it on. Even if Heard is the starter, we will need a well qualified back up. And Swoopes is not one yet.

I watched a rerun of the 2011 UT and ATM game yesterday.  Case was awful.  The defense carried that offense that game as well with the likes of Arakapo, Acho, Robinson, Byndom, Diggs (frosh year).  Its been awhile since we had we a great QB do more than manage a game.  On a rerun of Texas All Access I heard Strong tell the media Ash just needs to manage the game.  It just seems weird to me, that we should expect so little from the QB.  I want a baller at QB.  Swoopes with all his physical abilities isn't that guy, its not all his fault, but time to move on.

QBs on the roster:

Swoopes

Heard

Gentry

My only fear with Heard, is how under developed must he be if he cant beat out Swoopes?  Its almost comical to think that Heard isn't better than what we saw Swoopes do on the field vs TCU or Baylor. Cant count on incoming frosh Gentry.  So bring in a QB with some college experience, so a JUCO or incoming transfer with immediate eligibility like a Braxton Miller (rumors) makes sense.

Off the subject:

Also, why didnt we play Daje more.  Look what Foreman has done in the last 2 games, 2 TD's of +40 yards.  It just doesn't make sense to me why we are not trying to get the ball to our explosive players.  Im starting to wonder about Watson.  I bought into the Watson hype long ago and his players love him but has he given anybody a good reason why we are not using our best offensive weapons?  He kept saying he was going to integrate him more, never did.  Why?

Marcus Johnson the starter hasn't done anything all year, why is he starting?  Why didnt we move Daje or Foreman there, to get them on the field?

Marcus Johnson - 26 for 304, 11.7 avg, 1 TD (all season)
"Money" Foreman 10 for 188, 18.8 avg, 2 TD (started one game vs TCU, due to injury to Ship)

Baffling.  Makes me wonder about the evaluation process of the offensive coaches, especially considering the struggles the Offense has had this year

Colt and VY both red-shirted and they did alright. Granted they had better QBs on the rooster but that extra year of practice at the college level I'm sure helped them mature. Remember when the season started, we had Ash with Swoopes as the back-up. How much practice does a 3rd string true freshman get?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Heard will beat out Swoopes next year. Maybe not at the beginning but by the ou game (remember VY and Mock?).

I've watched his film and he reminds me a lot of Case McCoy. I got roasted on TOS for saying so, but his mechanics aren't very good and he frequently doesn't step into the throw/throws off his back foot. Like Case, he's got a lot of moxie and confidence in his ability to get the job done. IMO he's somewhat of a project.

I understand he's a good kid and I believe a full qualifier out of HS, so he should be able to transfer with no problem.

Well, the QB position could use an infusion of moxie next season. Let's hope Heard shows the moxie he had in HS, he was unstoppable in the games I watched on TV. I have no problem tailoring an offense to your talent if he is the best QB on campus next year.
