No way in hell that even gets close to happening. What happens if the Horns run the table and finish 9-3? During that span the defense shows progression week to week and gets a lot better. Plus they get commitments from Hines, Little, Browning, and Wilson wanting Strong. It's a low percentage of that happening, but what if it does? Do you make the change still?
Now that would be epic.Ok , I will play and say if we go 9-3 that means we play in a bowl game and there is no way that Perrin or Fevis would make a change. I would be more worried about them doing something stupid like extending his contract . Be fun to watch them play Houston in a bowl game . Winner gets to be the next Head Coach of Texas!
Opinions change as you go. Obviously I would love to see that miraculous improvement and would absolutely change my mind. I just wouldn't bet on it.What happens if the Horns run the table and finish 9-3? During that span the defense shows progression week to week and gets a lot better. For me, this thought is almost vomit-inducing. :wacko:If we don't get Herman, I don't think there will be a name out there who would be worth replacing Strong this season. If Herman goes to LSU, I think we have to hope and pray Strong puts the puzzle together in 2017.
Before the season I would take 8-4 plus a Bowl Win as the minimum to stay. That's pretty much what we laid on Mack Brown too his final year after a losing season and regression for several years. Most expected about that this year. What happens if the Horns run the table and finish 9-3? During that span the defense shows progression week to week and gets a lot better. This is the problem. If we don't get Herman, who else is out there? Anyone who thinks Saban or Meyer will leave their current positions to come to Texas is delusional. Petersen isn't leaving UW (for totally understandable reasons). I know Red McCombs wants Gruden, but the thought of that blowhard in burnt orange makes me sick to me stomach; the guy is basically the football version of Bobby Valentine. Off the top of my head, Chip Kelly and Larry Fedora would be next on my list, but of course the question there is the same: would they come to Texas?Opinions change as you go. I will say now. If we don't get Herman, I don't think there will be a name out there who would be worth replacing Strong this season. If Herman goes to LSU, I think we have to hope and pray Strong puts the puzzle together in 2017.
With what I have been seeing from this team, especially the defense and special teams, it would be hard to get worse. Strong has got to go.This is the problem. If we replace Charlie, it has to be the right guy. We can't mess this up again, and we can't fire Charlie just so we can turn around and hire some nobody who's put together back-to-back winning seasons in Division III. Provided that the defense looks better throughout the year and we end up with a respectable record, I think the play would be to keep Charlie. His biggest undoing in his tenure at Texas is his inability to evaluate his staff. He totally botched the whole Watson year 2 experiment, and now he's botched the DC position. Now that the offense is turned around, will Charlie taking over the defense result in dividends? Even though the "yards allowed" stat says otherwise, this defense looked different against OU, and in a good way. Tackling looked better, and we had 4 takeaways in one game, after 1 takeaway in our first 4 games. Not to make excuses for Strong (since the decision to do nothing during the bye week is ultimately on him), but there were definitely some positives from this game on defense.
Maybe I'm just sentimental because I desperately want Charlie to succeed, but I don't know that firing him is a slam-dunk choice just yet.
I'm not sure the Horns could get good enough recruits that could overcome the absence of coaching. This is what I'm worried about....
Texas has always been a top school for Anthony Hines, and that hasn’t changed. But the chants for head coach Charlie Strong to be fired have grown louder.
“I’m really hoping (Strong) stays there,†Hines said. “I’m still going to have interest in Texas, but I really like Coach Strong, so I hope he stays there. I don’t even know what my reaction would be (if Strong is fired). I hope it doesn’t go that far.â€
Texas suffered its third straight loss of the season when it fell to rival Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown. Texas gave up nearly 700 yards as the defense continued to look awful.
But Hines has not been completely turned off by the losing just yet and is optimistic Strong can right the ship.
“They have a really young secondary,†Hines said. “They are still developing. People forget that they are one of the youngest teams in the NCAA. People are coming down hard on them, but they are really young. I still think they have a chance to bounce back.
“The losses aren’t much. As long as Coach Strong picks this thing back up and shows improvement the rest of the season, it really won’t hurt as much.â€

I want Texas and Charlie to show improvement because I think this 17 re ruining class will be special. I think if Charlie stays then Hines, Browning, Little, Wilson, and Dobbins will be Longhorns. If Charlie is fired then I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, I want results on the field because that's what this is all about, but the level of talent UT is in line for this year will be special.

Is he going to pull a Mack Brown and answer Chris Simms' questions?I think he is there for the purpose to see if any questions are asked that he does not think are appropriate.
