Injury notes and a brief suspension

Tom Herman met with the media after Thursday and revealed some key news ahead of Saturday's showdown with West Virginia.

  • Starting DT Chris Nelson rolled his ankle in practice and will not play on Saturday. Gerald Wilbon will start in his place. D'Andre Christmas, Jamari Chisholm and Keondre Coburn could all see action.
  • Malcolm Roach has been cleared to play a limited number of plays.
  • Josh Moore underwent shoulder surgery and will be out for a while.
  • Anthony Wheeler will be suspended the first series after getting his weightlifting days mixed up. Herman said Jeffrey McCulloch will start in his place.

That sucks about Nelson.  I'm kind of excited to see Coburn and I think Wilbon will be ok there.

Good news on Roach though.  Hopefully he plays at DE

So wheeler gets a series, why not a series for our DBs last week?  The first quarter suspensions probably lost the game for us.  I wonder if a coach was late to a meeting if they would get suspended?

Boyd and Davis were late multiple times. Wheeler was just like LJH, who was late for one meeting.

Hadn’t heard that info.  Sounds like they were given opportunities to correct the behavior and failed to mature.  Nice leadership seniors.

Herman said Wheeler's was a brain fart, but I like McCulloch at LB over Wheeler anyway. He's just more athletic and can cover better.

Couple of additions to Jameson's note on injuries:

  • D'Shawn Jamison had the mid foot sprain against OSU but practiced all week and should be good to go against WVU.
  • Breckyn Hager suffered a sternoclavicular joint sprain but practiced Wednesday and Thursday. Hager will play on Saturday.
  • John Burt has been cleared to play the last several weeks and played in a limited # of snaps.  Herman said Burt will be "activated" this week which means he could begin to play a larger role in the offense.
  • Josh Moore's recovery from shoulder surgery will take some time. It is likely that he is out for the remainder of the season but there is a chance he could potentially be better by the Longhorns' bowl game.
