I like Charlie. A lot.

Lol at anyone that wants Bedford fired or demoted.

Right now Wheeler, Jefferson, Davis, Hill, Boyd, and Locke are getting fairly significant reps on defense. Omenihu and Hager are also getting opportunities. It's fairly obvious why the defense is struggling with things like gap integrity, we are young as hell. When you have 6 to 8 true freshman getting significant reps on one side of the ball you are going to struggle.

Let's just forget Bedford fielded a top 25 defense last year in an offensive minded conference and in a year where our offense was terrible. Wanting to fire or demote Bedford is laughable. Our best players, outside of a couple DL, are all true freshman.

Thank you.  I had a long response to the poster above - but it isn't worth it. Anyone that would have advocated for Strong keeping Robinson...  I don't even know what to say.

FWIW - we haven't given up 30 in a half to anyone this season - so he's either delusional or lying.

I think everybody has a right to their opinion, and GBT has an interesting take on things ... but, frankly, I'd rather have what you two guys are drinking!  ;)

we have now. In half of a half.

As defensive coordinator, Robinson turned one of the worst defenses in the Big 12 into one of the best after Diaz ruined them. Texas led the conference in sacks. He did that taking over two games into the season. In the Alamo Bowl, Robinson's defense shut down Oregon's offense which was #2 in the country and averaged over 45 points per game. Robinson's defense held the Oregon offense to one touchdown and 3 field goals (16 points). No defense gave up fewer points to Oregon. He held Baylor to 3 points until his defense became exhausted in the second half, due to an offense that couldn't do crap. He held OU and Adrian Peterson to 12 points !!!! Again with an offense that couldn't do crap. This guy is twice the DC Bedford is.

Don't really know how anyone can argue with this.

People like to play a lot of history revision. Robinson was great in 2013. But there was a reason why he was working as a quality control analyst for us. Robinson had been fired from his two previous jobs. He had a terrible tenure with Syracuse as their Head Coach. Then was fired at Michigan alongside Rodriguez when his defense was astonishingly bad. We picked him up when he was coaching at High School. A solid Defensive Coach but not the GOAT that nostalgic Texas fans make him out to be. He had some good years but as the game began to speed up, he lost a step or two.

I like Robinson and want only the best for him. But if he was really the amazing, can't miss defensive coach people make him out to be, why did he have to settle for working at San Jose? Especially when many higher profile schools have been looking for a solid DC since his Texas departure.

Devils advocate here, I know.

Not sure what happened at Michigan, but he has been good everywhere else, and especially good at Texas as DC. He would be better than Bedford, because Bedford is not getting it done.

Our defense looks more than young...it looks lost.

I'm thankful for what Robinson did for Texas. But let's look at the facts in 2013.

Ole Miss-#23 in total offense

Kansas State-#65 in total offense

Iowa State-#101 in total offense

Oklahoma-#50 in total offense

TCU-#108 in total offense

Kansas-#120 in total offense

West Virginia-#70 in total offense

Oklahoma State-#35 in total offense

Texas Tech-#11 in total offense

Baylor-#1 in total offense

Oregon-#2 in total offense

Robinson had the fortune of playing some pretty bad offensive teams that year. All in all, the top 50 offensive teams we played scored on us (outside of Tech and maybe Oregon). Even some of the lower ranked offenses, like WV and Iowa State, put points on the board against us that year. Robinson did a pretty good job turning that defense around, but it's not like he produced a spectacular defense.

To put this in perspective, Bedford could potentially face 8 top 20 offenses this year (that's insane). Robinson faced 3 over an 11 game span. Bedford will face more top 20 offenses this year than Robinson faced top 50 offenses during that 11 game span.

2010 Louisville total defense-#15 in the country

2011 Louisville total defense-#24 in the country

2012 Louisville total defense-#16 in the country

2013 Louisville total defense-#1 in the country

2014 Longhorns total defense-#25 in the country

I know thinking is difficult for you, but have you thought the reason Bedford is struggling this year is because he has absolutely zero upperclassmen talent and is reliant on almost all freshman? Let's compare this with Greg Robinson's last 5 years as a DC.

2004 Longhorns total defense-#24 in the country

2009 Michigan total defense-#68 in the country

2010 Michigan total defense-#110 in the country

2013 Longhorns total defense-#85 in the country (Granted, Diaz coached against New Mexico State and BYU. BYU probably hurt the overall defense and New Mexico State probably helped the overall stat).

2014 San Jose State total defense-#30 in the country

Much like the Wickline discussion, Bedford has shown the ability to be successful. I wonder what changed at Texas so far? Oh yeah, he has shit to work with as the little bit of upperclassmen talent from '14 has moved on.

5 straight years of fielding a top 25 defense and you want Bedford fired, it's laughable. The trend is that Bedford can coach defense if he actually has some talent outside of just Freshman. You are either an aggy troll or have no clue what you are talking about.

Good everywhere else? He was the first ever Head Coach at Syracuse to have a winless season. He did that twice in his four year tenure there.

Here you go: Worst Coaches

Greg Robinson is ranked 6th there on the Worst Coaches of the BCS Era.

He failed drastically at Syracuse. He failed drastically at Michigan. He had to Coach at the High School level after that. We didn't pick him up to be anything more than a Quality Control/Video Analyst. And there was a reason for that. As the game progressed and picked up, Robinson started to have less and less success. He pulled a rabbit out of the hat for us in 2013 and I'm thankful for that. But Bedford, as has already been proven in this thread, was rolling out better defenses than Robinson at that time. Strong already had an established working relationship with Bedford at that time. And Bedford is a Texas Alum and former Longhorn player. There was every reason to roll with Bedford and no real reason to keep Robinson on outside of gratitude for his efforts in 2013.

Just what kind of offenses did Bedford face at Louisville ? Look that up utisdabomb......

So what if Greg sucked as a head coach. He was not only good for Texas in 2013 but also 2004 before he left for a head job.

True he sucked at Michigan, but I'd like to know how Rich Rod may have affected that.

Bedford was DC at two places...OSU and Louisville......Post some stats on that OSU stint....

Lol, that you are still on this Greg Robinson tangent.
If Bedford is ever fired it's certainly not going to be for a guy like Greg Robinson.
