I admit I wanted Saban.

I admit I was 100% sure Saban was coming.

I admit I was disappointed that my first choice was not coming and Strong was. (Although I always though he was a good fit)

I took 40 minutes of my afternoon to watch a replay of his press conference today.

I can admit I have 100% of a man crush on him.

He stumbled for about 20 seconds at the very first. But then he looked like a man of confidence.

If anyone wasn't pleased with that press conference, then you need to take off your, "I know better!" glasses.

He makes no excuses. He knows what is exepcted. He realizes that he could make Saban a footnote in history.

When the answer to the question about not being the first choice is, 'I could have been the 15th choice, I don't care!" You know he gets it.

At the end I knew one thing. I am SOOOOOO glad we hired Charlie Strong and not Nick Saban.

It sounds cliche! It sounds like me trying to make lemonaide out of lemons.

But think about it.

If Strong does what I think he will. He will be the hottest name in coaching just like Saban.

But don't you get the feeling he is LOYAL!! Don't you get the feeling that no other job in college football would pull him away.

Hell, he waited for his AD to return from a ski trip to tell him in person. (Not Sabans MO)

I am so glad we took Strong over Saban. I REALLY mean that!!

Great post!! I really loved the way he carried himself despite the criticism some ppl have levied about his demeanor on camera.

From reading Strong's history he strikes me as a "me against the world type" who has more than paid his dues for the opportunity to coach at a top tier school. I think he will prove all the haters wrong.

SABAN who?????

Agree with all your comment. I couldn't see past Saban. Like you I have watched the press conference multiple times learning something new and insightful.

Now I can't see anyone other than Coach Strong! Good times

I just finished watching the PC. Charlie Strong is completely real. No facade or BS with this guy. He sometimes struggles for the right words, something I do as well. He isn't the polished salesman that Mack is, what he appears to be is passionate, sincere, and motivated to have our team back into the national discussion as one of the great programs. From what I have seen, I think he may be able to do just that.

I respect your opinion and think Coach Strong has a lot of potential, but I don't know if I would say I am glad we took him over Saban. There is no guarantee that either would be successful here but I think most people could agree that they both probably would. What separates them is the hardware sitting on Saban's shelf. He has won the big show 4 times already and could possibly win it again. Will Coach Strong ever win a NC? We all hope so but know body really knows. Saban will go down as one of the greatest college coaches ever. Period. I hope Charlie Strong will reach those same heights but right now it would be a no brainer IMO.

It's easy for me to armchair QB after the fact.

But I did in fact see red flags during the Sugar Bowl. I tried to chalk it down to Saban was thinking about leaving Alabama. But he was ill prepared for that game either way. Stoops did what he did best. He wins games with no pressure. The pressure was not on Stoops because he was picked to get run out of the stadium.

But as to your response, I respectfully disagree. Yes Saban has 4 championships. But Strong has two conference championships as a HC and two NC's as a DC. Saban would have been difficult to fire if he struggled, because of his contract. Strong doesn't have a NC as a HC and now has a program that can legitimately do that. Plus when he is making more than Saban, it will be because of things he did at OUR university.

You make a lot of good points but I still think one has proven he can win the NC and the other has yet to accomplish that feat. I think we can both agree that it will be a moot point if Charlie Strong wins one in the next few years. I think Strong has more upside than Saban in the long run and that is the reason that he is probably the better hire.
