Harbaugh Update

I feel like im taking crazy pills.

Are there really people out there that would question a freaking John Harbaugh hire?

Briles over Harbaugh?

Dont get me wrong, I would like a Briles hire, but Harbaugh is the grand slam that Texas needs in the current environment. Its better than everyone, including Saban (based off age).

Wow. I haven't kept up with Mcphaul and his predictions, but that's even worse.
The lesser of the harbaugh brothers who doesn't have the big college coaching experience.

Briles>>>>>>>>>>>>John H
You haven't kept up with McPhaul predictions but a page ago you were making fun of his predictions. Looks like OB trash has made its way over here.

The concerns on recruiting by John Harbaugh are red herrings. Mack Brown was a supposed "great recruiter" who could not identify talent or develop it or inspire young men to win championships. He was also a terrible game planner and game day coach whose only strong skill set was self promotion. John Harbaugh is the anti-Mack. By all accounts Harbaugh is a truly good guy who is a great football mind who knows how to lead championship teams at the highest level. John is perhaps the ideal profile to inspire superior young athletes with championship mindsets and NFL ambitions to come to UT. He is better in every way than Mack Brown and could compete with any college football coach for recruits.

UT would be truly fortunate the have John Harbaugh as head coach and he is 11 years younger than Saban.

I like your style.....thanks for your thoughts

Like I reported yesterday, the talks have gone to the next level.
What does that mean? That means a face to face meeting is scheduled.

Darrell
Does not suck

I will definitely do that. Been super busy at work with end of the year car buying but if I get a chance tonight I will knock that out. Great idea.
Longview and car sales, you a Peters kid?? One of his sons is a very good friend of mine. Always think of him when I see your name on the posts, but didn't know you did car sales too. Probably a coincidence.

outstanding post!

YOU have had two posts, both smartassy. Your IP is getting banned fairly soon.
Why wait? Those posts are not the standard for this board. I may be trigger happy though. I get like that when I am passionate about something.

He's done. There's a way to phrase responses to posts and his was the exact opposite of how it should have been done. Again, it's completely ok to disagree as long as the dialogue is respectful. This is applicable to everyone here.

Agree... He seems like a good character guy, and probably nice fit with college kids. Recent NFL coaches seem to adjust well to college, and he is proven-winner at highest level.

Prefer Harbaugh over Saban/ Fisher for several reasons.

Clearly John Harbaugh is a very good football coach. . .a big plus. .
But is he someone who can be the "closer" when it comes to recruiting? Can someone who knows him better give us the cliff notes version of his strengths and weaknesses. .what he'd bring to the program?
I agree with this. Being a star in the NFL does not necessarily translate to being the same in college. Anyone remember Sherman? And the reverse is true as well. I give you Nick Saban

Which Super Bowl did Sherman win as head coach to earn his "NFL star" status? I don't remember off the top of my head. I do remember him going something like 4-12, getting fired and 18 months later the aggys salivating over how he "turned around" the Green Bay Packers. In typical aggy fashion, they only found out later that by "turned around" people meant he turned the Packers from a winning team into a losing team. To Sherman's credit, he did leave Sumlin with some players to work with.

I no longer live in Longview. Work at a Chevy dealership in Monroe now. I graduated a year after Mark and with Chris. Know Keith too from my umpiring little league days and from my mom working up at the high school when he was there. Really good family.

Do you really think the workload would be less at Texas with the recruiting trips and everything thing that comes with being the head coach at UT?

Pete Carroll might be a better example but doesn't change the point. . .
