Harbaugh Update

As I said yesterday, Patterson will not get caught with his pants down. If Saban elects to stay in Bama, Texas will have not one but, two contingency plans in place.

LongviewLobo...

I have a request for you to compare Saban to John Harbaugh... if you haven't already posted it (I may have missed it.) I really like those pieces you do!

Can anyone tell me what John's experience is in college or running an up tempo or spread offense? He's a very good NFL coach but I am VERY concerned about him in the college game.

What experience does he have in recruiting? Relationships with Texas HS coaches?

What about developing young kids? About teaching fundamentals for the college game?

How about defending the spread and up tempo? Or running it?

I would feel much better about Jim. He's got a college history and a proven track record at our level. NFL coaches may be too used to dealing with "professionals" who they may or may not select in the draft or sign as free agents and the players basically coach themselves if they want playing time. Not sure it is a good fit for what we need.

I'd say this is a pretty good contingency plan... But don't think Saban is saying no. I'm mean he has a house now in Austin. For what, vacation?? Don't think so...

If it gets to "x day", say Sunday.. will we know he has passed?

John Harbaugh doesn't interest me at all. Sure he won a Super Bowl but I think there are better choices for our opening.

High School kids want to play for a college that they believe will prepare them to enter the NFL. What better coach to play for than one that is connected to the NFL and also happens to wear a Super Bowl ring????

McPhaul,

A few questions.

How often do you believe people with access to 'insiders' are knowingly part of the smokescreen?

Now that the Mack Brown era is complete, who does Mr. Jamail support/want?

What do BMDs get from coaches?

Do you sense that BMDs prefer access rather than ability from coaches?

Which coaches on your list have the ability to demand the assistants that they want versus what Patterson may want?

A young and energetic coach that has won it all recently at the highest level against the greatest football minds isn't at the top of your list?

Darrell, I think I missed it and am too lazy to re-read the CrossFire from yesterday, but can you share the 2nd contingency plan? Strong or Briles?

My guess is

1) Saban

Contingency 1a: Harbaugh

Contingency 1b: Fisher

4) Briles

And one more question. If Sexton knows Saban's wishes and for the sake of argument let us presume he wants the Texas job, why would he allow Fisher to be used by Texas as leverage?

Thank you for the info.

50/50, it ain't easy right now.

JJ camp ain't saying much.

To feel connected.

Each one can be different.

All of them

Consider it a chess match between patterson and Sexton and you must remember, Sexton works for Fisher, not the other way around. Fisher wants to the job, Sexton has to do what he tells him to do.

I'd have absolutely no trouble welcoming John Harbaugh to the 40. From all accounts, he's a good man and has done a pretty darn good job in the NFL. He has a football pedigree that is very impressive, too. :)

Pretty darn good job? Its easily arguable that he has a top 3 record as a NFL coach during his tenure in the NFL. 3 times finishing in AFC championship or later with one super bowl, in only 6 seasons. Never had a losing season. Hes been a fantastic NFL coach.

I will have more on the scheduled meeting when I have been given clearance to post it.
