I got into a spirited debate with someone on twitter today in regards to Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkels comments during SEC Media Day on Tuesday when asked about Joe Paterno. Pinkel stated that, "you can't take away what the man has done in his career..." Pinkel went on to call Paterno a "Great Man".
I have serious issues with Pinkel calling Paterno a great man. A great man doesn't conspire to conceal the rape of innocent young boys. I feel Pinkels comments were irresponsible, insensitive and reckless. I called on the SEC, Missouri Administration and the AFCA to come out and admonish Pinkel for his comments publicly.
Of course, it should be noted that Pinkel has a history of making questionable decisions, such as his DWI last year.
Recruiting is the life blood of every program and considering the climate right now towards the safety and well being of kids, I am not sure Pinkel did himself any favors with many parents out there by calling a man who allowed the raping of kids to happen under his watch, a "Great Man".
