The University of Texas graduate looks to do great things in Dallas with the Mustangs. His dad had a few things to say about the team at UT when his son was qb - “It was a bad team anyway,†Gale said. “You could have put John Elway in at quarterback and it wasn’t going to be pretty. I’m proud of the way Garrett handled himself. He showed great perseverance putting up with what he had to deal with here in Austin.â€

SMU head coach June Jones worked with Gale Gilbert, Garret's dad, when he was qb at Cal back in the 80's. I wish Gilbert the best at SMU. He deserves a medal for finishing 27 hours last semester and getting his degree from UT.

No Gale, Garrett was horrible. I am not saying the talent level is different than what was here in 2009. But to say SMU has more talent than Texas is ridiculous. I mean they may be my surprise non BCS team to because conference USA is bad and if they beat TCU, they have an easy road to undefeated football. That doesn't mean they are more talented than UT.

Gilbert will be playing against worse defenses and I think he has a pretty good year at Ponyville. No way in hell is SMU better than UT (in any sport).

Serious congratulations to him for busting ass and completing a whopping 27 hours in a semester. Holy crap.

Gale should have just left that whole situation alone and concentrated on what's going on right now for him and SMU. His son has to claim a lot of that badness.

My mind keeps going back to last season's spring game. Gilbert's first pass was right to a defender. He didn't have to move..

Glad Gilbert is "tearing it up at SMU" and glad he is gone.
