*****GAME THREAD - TEXAS vs. KANSAS (11/23/2018)*****

Nathan-Fillion-reaction-gif.gif
I see my succinct observations have left you speechless. lol

Pay close attention to what Tom says. This team has overachieved this year. Tom is not as stupid as the posters on all the various Texas boards think he is. He knows that he will have a really good team next year and an even better team the year after next.

And Tom will coach circles around Mackovic when it's all said and done.
That's part of what has me ticked. I know Tom is smart, so does Tom. Tom thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and it shows. I also think Tom is covering his ass with his overachieving statement. What will the players think when they continue to hear this at every media availability as Tom is wont to do?

You obviously don't like Tom. Not sure why unless you were a Charlie Strong guy and can't stand it that Tom has this team in the CCG in only his 2nd year after the total failure that was Charlie.

I was one of the biggest fans of Tom when Texas hired him, but something in his personality has put me off. And honestly I hope for nothing but success for him while he is the Texas coach. In all the years I played I never once heard a coach say we were overachieving.

Look, directing Texas to the CCG in his second year is more than I expected, but Tom just needs to figure out he not God's gift to coaching.

Yea, definitely not seeing what you are seeing when it comes to Tom. Especially the part about Tom needing to figure out he's not God's gift to coaching. Something is really off on your radar regarding Tom.

The God's gift to coaching statement may have been a tad bit over the top. The German soda water is starting to work its magic. :)

Everybody has their buttons that can be pushed. Doesn't mean somebody is "off" because they see something differently.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right about Herman.

TEXAS played their worst game of the year and got a win because Kansas is a very poor team...If they don't get their act together, OU will hang 50 on us and run us out of the stadium...Never seen Sam throw so poorly, they really played down to Kansas level

Know what?   Everyone is right!

Funny thing about fandom is, it's all about perspective. How we choose to view things.  Some are happy that we even got to the CG,  and some will be angry even if we win it because we lost three games by such a close margin and could be playing for the NC, or whatever.

But for those of us who usually fall somewhere in the middle,  it's always entertaining and sometimes enlightening to see your viewpoints.

Thanks.  :)

UTfish, I agree. I also think there is a problem in the perception of ‘overachieving’.

I took it to mean that the team is better than he expected it to be at this point, due to their own effort, talent,  and desire to achieve. He is correctly giving the credit to the players.

Herman is not saying that the team is not as good as their on-field results. He is saying that he didn’t expect their effort, talent, and desire to achieve to manifest itself so quickly in on-field results. This is a ‘team’ in every sense of the word, and they play for each other.

Baron, I think, feels the need to defend the team because he seems to believe Herman is demeaning them. Herman’s body language, facial expressions, and even statements he makes show absolute respect for this team and their accomplishments.  I think he is very proud of their accomplishments.

Hook ‘em!

Just a few thoughts on Herman IMO he will never be the offense coach that Mac. was. Which is ok with me.

So far he has not been smart enough or not tried to fix some problems which have been there all season. notebly

special teams and punt returns. Will give credit to changes to fair catch kickoffs. Great talent wins football games but attention to small details also wins or sometimes costs in big games.
