Former Tech Assistant Joining The Texas Staff

I am not complaining, but this is sounding more and more like some kind of government setup. We are hiring lots of people that have titles in areas that I never heard of.....seriously....does anyone have a clue what a quality control analyst might do?

However....if it lets the coaches have more time to coach and have to spend less time on that quality control business I am all for it.

Film break down of oppnents and self scouting. They definitely serve a purpose.

it is a position that was basically gutted by Patterson

Strong had to cut number of quality control coaches so he could combine salaries just so Texas could compete with Kansas and similar schools in salary

In the last few years I have read quite a bit about how Saban's staff was structured. You can only have 9 "coaches", so he has offensive and defensive analysis. He has several for each side of the ball. For several years, I was thinking if they can do it why isn't Texas trying to do it. We supposedly have the most money, so why aren't we loaded to the max with these analysis. I never could figure out why we weren't doing it. Clemson, Michigan, Ohio St. and numerous others are doing it now. Alot of times these analysis aren't 24 year old kids either. They are seasoned coaches that have been coordinators etc.... I heard Saban's analysis break down film of potential recruits and when they like them, they give the recommendation to Saban and then he watches the films of the recommendations before they offer a kid. I mean alot of film. I heard the analysis watch every play of a kids high school career before they make a recommendation and then Saban watches every play of his senior year. These analysis are highly important. So Tom Herman comes in and says we are going to have what the top teams have. Beyond great move in my opinion. Why wouldn't you? I also see his point on our facilities. These other teams are piling money into their facilities, so you better be doing it if you won't to keep up. This is a different time and age now. We are trying to attract 17-18 year old kids. I would have played at Texas if they would have had a storage shed to dress in, but these kids nowadays like the graphics, pretty, shiny things. It is what it is and you better be doing it if you want to get the top players. Players today think nothing about leaving the state and going to Michigan, California, Ohio to play. I am cautiously optimistic about where Tom Herman is going to take us, but I am liking what i hear so far.

During his press conference Herman mentioned the potential for one of these guys to watch film and see a specific tendency or weakness in an opponent, which leads to calling a play at a certain time to win the game. He basically said if you can afford it, which Texas can, you should do it, as long as you trust the guys.
