Some folks are dog people. Some are cat people. Others like both or neither. I enjoy hearing what people have to say about their "best friends" or seeing the funny or odd things they do. I'll start this off with pictures of my Healers. We lost Reyna close to two years ago and Bevo is almost 141/2.

Red and Blue Healers...I have 2 mixed labs (rescue dogs 2 sisters) and a pomeranian (for my girls...lol)

I do want to ask about the healers. Are they kid friendly dogs? I have heard they can be very protective and perhaps "possessive " over their masters children, to the point that your kids can't have friends over? Is there any truth to that? I know they are herding dogs, literally nip your heals to keep you inline...

Healers are great dogs.

I have 2 retrievers.

Bo is an American Golden retriever from GRRNT (  Golden Retriever Rescue North Texas ), hes about 9.

Abby is an English Golden Retriever and a total lap dog.  She is now about 50 lbs so that is challenging at times :)

I like both cats and dogs.

Having a dog, however, is like having a child and they have to taken care of accordingly.  A cat, on the other hand, is a lot more independent and self sufficient.  I like that.

My bride likes a cat breed called a "Rag Doll".  I was going to get her one until I saw how much breeders charge for them.  I not paying $800+ for a cat.

I have a blonde German Shepard. His name is "Boom" and he's the best and smartest dog I've ever had. I swear the guy understands English.

My wife has a Maltese named Elroy. In reality, he runs the place.

My kids have a pair of Chihuahuas. They are freaks. Thats as nice as I can be about that breed.

I picked up a stray about a month or so ago. She's a Scottie Terrier and sweat as she can be. However, had no idea she was pregnant when I picked her up. We now have six puppies and have no idea who the father is. They are now walking around my room freely. Mom just acts like she's no longer responsible. Looking forward to finding them good homes. lol

17 year old Border Collie that has recently gone deaf. Yes, he really is deaf, not just playin deaf to get attention and stuff. Really is the smartest bread out there. Heck, she tutored my daughter through pre-cal in high school.

Then there's my daughters dog that we got stuck with when she went off to college. It's an Imperial Zshit Zu. The little f.@(er is full grown and just got to four pounds. I admit she is pretty cute and worships me but.... what a worthless breed. I've tried to teach her to bring in the paper but heck, the paper is four times her size. I've tried to get her to chase the squirrels from my fruit trees but she just runs under the Smoker and hides. Once I door to door salesman knocked on the door and I wanted him to leave. I yelled from behind the door, "Down Cujo!" But he could see her from window and just laughed as he walked away.

Yes we supposedly have cats but we haven't seen them since we got the Border Collie 16 years ago. She immediately started to herd the cats and eventually they got sick of it and disappeared.

Two Golden Retriever's, two cats.

Got the two cats in 2010 after losing a female Golden to cancer.  She was bitten by a copperhead 3 months before her loss but was on rattlesnake vaccine and cancer drugs so she survived.  After her loss, she hated cats, we got the brother/sister feral kittens with the intent they would be outside cats but that never happened.  They have their own room and stay inside when we are at work and at night.  No snakes, rats or mouse now, they are hunters when outside.

Our male Golden is five and a beautiful 92 lb dog.  You have to get a new dog if you lose one.  We bought a beautiful female in 2011, blonde, 62 pounds.  She is blessed after surviving a jump off an 80 foot cliff after a fresbie in 2013. That was a unbelievable day, the Pedernales fire station dispatched 5 trucks, complete with a rappel team for rescue.  She jumped up on all four legs when the they put her on the sled so a fireman carried her up the stairs.

The cats and dogs are all snuggled together on the living room couch tonight as usual, they don't know they are different.

If you don't have a dog or cat, get one.

Healers are natural born herders. They herd each other if the other is getting attention from us. They will position themselves between you and the other dog and push the other with their hip so that only they are getting petted.

Here is a confused dog.

Am I doing this right.jpg

I have an English Setter, Llewellyn strain. She is as good a dog as one would ever want. Don't know how I would change her to be any better. Have had three Irish Setters before her, all males, and all great dogs. I live in constant terror that I will outlive her.

Don't like cats.

Grew up with dogs, but after marriage our family has had primarily dogs and cats for pets - we did have a rabbit and later a hedgehog for awhile - hedgehog was kinda cute but my son's room always smelled like crap while he had him.  Rascal is our current K-9, a pretty old wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier.  3 cats including my favorite BEVO - that is a very friendly orange and white male tabby.

Sometimes, mother dogs have a maternal instinct that knows no boundaries. When I was a kid, we had a dog who had just had a litter of her own that had just been weened. My brother and I were out walking in the woods one day when we came across four baby armadillos who appeared to be abandoned. We brought them back to the house to play with them. After we got tired of playing with them, we went to play baseball, which we did just about every day. When we went to where our dog liked to rest, there she was, nursing those four baby armadillos. We took Polaroids. I wish I still had copies. I did find this though.

Are you my mother.jpg

I have 4 dogs and 3 cats. My inside dogs are a toy Australian Shepherd and Sheltie. The outside dogs are Border Collie and a 1/2 Border and 1/2 Aussie. All except the Sheltie are super athletic playing ball, frisbee, or herding our show horses. All my dogs get along with my cats. Only problem I have is locating my packages when UPS or FED EX shows up because they usually just throw my stuff near the house because the dogs won't let them out of the truck. More bark than bite but they have the drivers fooled. Pets definitely make life more enjoyable.

We have a heeler (with an e or a?) and watching him with kids over is hilarious as he wants to herd them.

They are generally great with kids but be aware they will 'nip' at kids as that is how they heel cows which is what they were breed to do.

Ours is 75 lbs and doesn't understand he's not a lap puppy. . .high energy too.

We had a blue point Siamese cat who was a fur person, personality of a dog, loved attention love to hang with his humans. . .he'd "talk" to Michelle in the mornings and the funny thing, she hated cats till she moved in with me and met Cyd. . .

Hate to say it but I waited too long to put him down, he was in real pain (renal functions shut down) at the end but was a coward and didn't have the heart. . . ..I looked up at him struggling to come down the stairs and realized what I had to do. . . .it was tough.

But great cats are much rarer than great dogs.  .. . .

You don't seem to be by yourself.  Some people have an aversion to cats like some do to snakes.  Never heard this said about dogs.

Not being critical, but never have understood this.

The love of my life also wanted a Border Collie.  Research about this breed, has concluded they are the worlds smartest breed.

Once again, and I don't want anyone to think I am cheap, but I can't see paying $1,500 to $2,500 for a dog.  For that kind of price, the dog would have to be able to cook and clean house.  :P

Hate cats.

Cannot figure out if I can post a photo of my dog on mobile, but he is a rescue Dachsund named Bowie. He kept me sane in the aftermath of a divorce that left me an emotional wreck for several months.
