SignUp Now!So we win the 05, 08, 09 title. Saban wins 03, 11, 12. Mack goes down as one of the great coaches of all time, gets his name next to DKR on the stadium. Overall they would be in the same realm, both hall of fame coaches.Playing devil's advocate here. What happens if Colt does not get hurt? I think we win that game. If Gideon makes the interception against TT and we win that game and play for national championship. Who has better legacy Mack or Saban?
Pretty much.I keep hearing this "buying a championship" thing.
Isnt that what every premier football school tries to do?
I used to think the same thing, them I remembered that he also coached at LSU. He coached there a few years and took them to a title and them left. LSU has remained a top program long after Saban left despite having a goof ball as a coach. Ideally I'd like to kick ass with someone like Fitzgerald from Northwestern, but a few seasons with Saban would be fun.Saban would be a great coach for the "Win Now" mentality, but he wouldn't provide much for long term. Maybe I am a minority in this thought, I would rather suffer through another sub par season or two now since we are already used to it and have a chance to be near the peak of the mountain long term with a coach who may last here 15+ years.
That being said...
If he really does end up here and the ink dries on that coaching contract, I will be more than thrilled.
This is exactly the way I think. I'd rather have Saban for 5-7 years and let him build things back up, win a title or two and then move on to where we get new blood to pick up right where he left off. One of the biggest issues we are facing right now is the fact that Mack has been here so long and his act has gotten pretty stale. Coaches don't have extremely long shelf lives. 10 years is almost the max for a successful coach these days. Getting Saban here and turning this thing around and making it a monster would be perfect. Then his replacement could come in and continue what he built as long as we don't hire a grass eating moron like Miles.I used to think the same thing, them I remembered that he also coached at LSU. agree with all of this. has kind of a 'hired gun' feel to it. and he's 62. what's he got... 5 years? we're going to have to do it again soon. ideally i'd want the next nick saban. just don't know who that is.Pros:
-Recruiting
-Intensity
-Systematic
-Accountability
-Development

-Recrui oh.
-LHN on DirecTV!!
-Very, VERY high standards for team/players
Cons:
-"selling soul/buying championships" argument (a pride thing for me)
-how much gas is left in the tank?
-Not too familiar with spread offenses (dominant in TX HS football)
-....that's really all I got
