You really have to hand it Dale Hansen. He made an extremely powerful statement tonight on the Michael Sam story.

Whether you agree with it or not, the way in which Hansen delivered the message was ballsy and powerful.

Hansen Unplugged

My opinion of Dale Hansen and his segments tend to sway back and forth. One night, I'm really liking what he proves. Another, I feel he's trying too hard to appear unbiased. As for this segment, I don't think he could have done it any better. Those are the words everyone needs to hear. Hear that. Accept that. Move on.

I couldn't disagree more. If "we" are comfortable with any of that behavior, then "we" have a problem. We can move on, but I do not have to accept it as being okay.

Dale thanks you for not disagreeing.

I don't approve of his lifestyle for me but he is certainly free to choose his own path. My only issue with any of this is if Gay's truly want their sexual choices to not be a big deal to people then why keep making a big deal out of it. Be gay. I don't see the need for a press release. I didn't hear JM announce he was straight after announcing he was going pro.

Athenslawyer,

LOL! Now I know how Vinnie felt on "Welcome Back Kotter"...I'm confused! Did I read his closing statement wrong? If so, apologies to Dale. Thanks.

Different strokes for different folks. He is free to be whatever he wants to be, I guess. Back when I was playing over 50 years ago, those guys didn't dare "come out" but perhaps they were around. This guy is not some kind of hero, IMHO, but as far as I am concerned he is free to do whatever he wants in that regard unless he tries to involve me in it somehow. Public announcements of it are not heroic, though.

So long as they're oppressed and robbed of the same rights that you and I have, they have every right and reason to "keep making a big deal out of it". It's easy for us to look at their fight as an over-exaggeration because neither you or I are being stripped of something that is constitutionally owed to us as Americans. Once this country allows those people to live their life to the fullest in private, they'll stop making it so public.

You don't have to agree with the lifestyle to appreciate the fact that they do have rights. And that those rights aren't being given to them. It's immoral and it's unjust.

These two statements... Nothing to do but shake my head.

perhaps there's a reason for that. hmmmm....

I work for an agency that places children in potential homes for adoption..some of the best home environments that I have had the pleasure of being in have been same sex parents, that's not to say that there aren't equally great heterosexual parents willing to adopt, I am saying that from what I have encountered, those in same sex relationships are good people who just want to be given the same rights as anyone else. I don't like classifying homosexuality as a lifestyle..these people are who they are...they deserve the same rights. The fact that rights and acceptance for all people is something that is being argued to me is silly....but then again we use to have miscegenation laws...laws that made interracial marriage, cohabitation, procreation, and sexual relations illegal....I just don't care what goes on in someone else's bedroom..taking care of my own is enough for me.

Really? If we don't like God's law or what the Bible says, we change the law? It's okay to go against what God says, but it's immoral to refute man's law? One thing is clear though, we are free to choose our own path, and that includes Michael Sam.

Dale may have been unplugged but he also managed to jump off the rail. He created a straw man and followed it up with a complete nonsequitor (sp). Who are the people who have a problem with this? The guy is gay and he wants to play in the NFL. So because of this Dale Hansen delivers a rant about people who want the government in our bedrooms? Hansen is a complete idiot. It would appear he has more issues with Sam then the rest of us do.

I see where you're going, but one sin does not weigh more than the next, it seems that a lot of individuals weigh sins on their own scales and those scales are defined by personal feeling, likes, dislikes, upbringing, ect. The bible was written and translated by men..I believe God made each "type" of person for a reason..without going into religious theory I will leave it at that.

The people across the US who have voted to deny homosexuals the same rights the rest of us enjoy. The football players who have said on and off the record that they don't have any 'gays' in their locker room and one wouldn't be welcome. The fundamentalists who would like to rule this country via their own interpretation of a book written almost 2000 years ago.

Thats just some of the people Dale was speaking to.

So please point me to stories with quotes from any of those people saying Sam shouldn't be playing in the NFL.

I'll wait off line because it may take you a while.

What does God's Law or the Bible have to do with the Constitution? What does it have to do with being a citizen of the United States? Simply because you adhere to the beliefs and rules of your religious system, doesn't mean that everyone else in the country is required to live by those same standards. And because our founding fathers were wise enough to understand the need for separation of Church and State, no law within this country can be devised or implemented purely off of a particular faith and/or religion.

I applaud you for exercising your right to live your life in a way that fulfills your religious duties but you need to understand that your religious duties do not fall on the backs of every man and woman in this country. One of the things that does in fact make our country a good one, is the right to live your life in accordance to your own choosing. We escaped indoctrination to give people a chance at freedom and living their dream. And by continuing to deny a very basic right that doesn't directly effect and/or harm the lives of anyone outside of those who choose to exercise the right, we're implementing our own form of indoctrination.

Can you show me an example of where gays were oppressed or robbed of their rights in the last 10 years that didn't result in some action taken on their behalf? What rights are you referring too? You can't just throw something out like that and not be willing to back it up.
