Crossfire with McPhaul - Thanksgiving 2013 Edition

Royal was left out because some power brokers thought his social status was not high enough not that he did know how to coach. The big boys want to change an attitude among other things which Mack helped create in other words they want a different type coach and program. Mack would choose some one like him. The comparison of the two situations is bad. Also brown is no where close to royal as a coach

Was not familiar with the Bryant situation.

Questions- has that been an ongoing issue or changed/regressed as Saban has achieved more power, MNC's, etc?

And just HOW much clout does Bryant Jr carry at Alabama compared to NS?

From what I have heard, Bryant swings a big stick and is liked publicly. However, privately he is not such the prize. Just what I have been told, no way of knowing how much truth there is to it.

Hard to believe Saban has such poor relationships with the powers-that-be, a GOOD thing for Texas. Sure hope he comes. Thanks for the information McPhaul.

Mack nixing the possibility of Briles to Texas is exactly why he shouldn't be involved....Bill Self?? Let's not be completely delusional here, Greg Marshall should be a part of any list for basketball hires.

Darrell, great stuff as always. 2 follow up questions. 1. Does Patterson have different views on conference alignment/realignment and playing the Ags again than Dodds? 2. Does getting Saban change Solomon Thomas' thinking? Getting Shaw would seem to definitely change his view, but just wondering.

Actually, Alan Shivers, Jr. was Royals biggest dissenter. Shivers, the ex-governor, did not approve of Royals buddies - notably the pot smoking outlaw Willie Nelson and his ilk.
