Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/13/2013

Good info here for sure. I look forward to seeing Steve Patterson put his stamp on the brand. The fat cutting needs to begin. I don't care how many people we end up with in the AD, as long as Steve has put them in place. I am a big fan of the Patterson "no nonsense " approach. Being a 2nd generation GM certainly must give him an edge! Good to see ya over here Cosell, looking forward to your Recruiting insight.

I'm so excited after hearing this news that I probably won't be able to get a dang thing done at work this afternoon. I feel like a little kid at Christmas. Thanks so much for the update ... sincerely appreciated by all the Horn fans!

McPhaul, are you hearing anything new about any contingency plans if Saban falls through? It seems like we are zeroed in on Saban so maybe not.

Excellent work by McPhaul, as always! A very interesting read to say the least. It concerns me that according to said sources, Saban is turned off by the level of incompetence being displayed by some in the organization. Admittedly, it's not hard to blame him for that. It also sounds like both Mack and Nick are trying to play their part within the system that keeps them from looking immoral (Nick) or losing their pride (Mack). Coaching is like a fraternity, as we recently saw via Snyder and Brown earlier this season, so I can't imagine that Saban coming in and working a deal behind Mack's back would be looked upon very fondly by the other coaches in the NCAA. Which is largely why I think he's upset with the way this process has been handled. Mack on the other hand has done so much at Texas during his tenure that has rightfully led him to be a bit prideful. Stripping a man of his pride is one of the worst things you can do to a man, so it's not hard to understand why Mack & Co. want this to look like a Mack & Co. decision. Despite the failures of Texas as of late, I will always have a Burnt Orange spot in my heart for Mack Brown. He's a great man and he'll undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest things to ever happen to Texas football. So while I am looking forward to his impending retirement, I do hope it's done gracefully and with the respect that Mack Brown deserves.

Great Crossfire McPhaul! Awesome insight on administrators ratio. We could keep it on the DL, but mainstream media keeps reporting rumors Saban to Texas!

This.

Another thing which never gets discussed: Whats the plan to do this AND let Saban coach Alabama for the BCS title? Doesnt seem like hed be willing to give that up, and how hard would his guys play if they knew going in he wouldnt be coming back?

Could a dirty scenario emerge where Mack announces the day after NSD and has Saban here in time for spring ball?

As to I buddy but to use your analogy, our parents have only said they will get us the gift we want for Xmas, its not under the tree yet. Very big difference. I have no reason not to trust Patterson but I dont trust the people currently at Belmont. They havent done many things right in the past few years.

Timing is still an issue and a big one, IMO. When does Texas lose so Mack can announce? At this point I dont feel "retirement" will happen till after the Bu game on Dec 7th. What happens if(and now that Lsu game is done its a when)Bama playes for title game? Does that mean that Saban cant announce he is coming to Texas till after the first week of January?

A lot of time between now and mid January for many things to go wrong.

McPhaul, would it make things easier in terms of timing and smoothness if Texas lost 2 more times in the regular season? Sure Mack might/will be out either way but would the process of announcing the decision and timeframe be better if Texas lost?

Skolodn and Big Phil -

Thanks for the welcome.

We just want a board with present day technology that fanatics can feel free to voice their opinions, OTs, insider info, without the backlash.

Friends of the so-called MBTF program are welcome here.

The so-called haters are welcomed here.

The neutral fan is welcomed here.

No grudges or prejudices carried from otber boards. It is a fresh start under a different environment with a different set of rules.

We just want respectable discussion from both ends of the spectrum.

At the end of the day, we are all on tbe same team.

At the end of the day, if we achieve nothing else, we want to be a place you can call Central Station. A place you can take the topics of the day and discuss and debate at will with other like-minded and respectful posters.

Recruiting-wise, give us some time. We are creating a new board (which will take time) in order to introduce a recruiting game I think you will like.

We are also breaking down a lot of tape, creating the heart of the recruiting board and trying to increase our network at the high school level. With over 1,400 schools that is going to take time.

If anyone has a contact that can be of help, even at a marginal gain, please feel free to email me at PlayTexasSports@gmail.com. I have some ideas for the board, but could use some help with the daunting task of networking the large landscape that is Texas Recruiting. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I need to stop. I went overboard. Sorry fellas! But it is going to be fun!

Aaron, I need to get with you about an email acct.

Wait, do we want that?
With the Big 12 title on the line, heck yes we want that. These players who suit up everyday want that. I know lots of folks are ready for Mack to step down, myself included, but more than anything I want him to leave Texas with another conference title.

No way Mack waits that long. Why would he? Patterson wouldn't allow the next HC to not have ANY influence or hand in the recruiting, given the opportunity to do so.

Best case, as mentioned above... Mack announces after Tech game. Period. Then let's go win a GOTDAMN conference title and beat a top 10 team in the BCS... with Mack riding out on the shoulders of Mason and Hopkins.

I know it's early and I am putting the horse before the cart but, any projections for next years won/loss record if we get Saban?

I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not going to root against Texas. I want Mack to go out on top also.

However, the below part of the crossfire below does concern me though. If a single additional loss in an already two loss year, meant us inking a deal with Saban, I think I'd be on board with that.

"Understandably so, the members of the Selection Committee are squirming in their collective seats! You could not get anyone one of them to admit in public that they had wished Texas had already lost a game or two more but. Nevertheless, there is no denying that with each win, Mack Brown delays the deals they are trying to cement in bringing Saban to Austin."
