Conference Realignment Discussion

Agree. I don't like the abandoning of traditional rivals. There is no geographical tie. Folks in PA won't like staying up until 1 am to see a game live, and vice-versa.

Sounds sexy, but looks like a big fat bag of issues coming.
And don't forget about the "student-athletes" that play sports midweek. Fun travel for them. See West Virginia..

Penn State v USC/UCLA won’t be a 7PM Pacific 10PM Eastern game.  That’ll be Indiana or Purdue and nobody watches them anyway.

what do you mean by vice versa?

Saw some spectacultion that the BIG12 could go after Utah,Colorado,Arizona and Arizona state.  Seems like that could make some geographical sense.

Obviously that would be the end of the PAC, and the other PAC teams would be left scrambling trying to find a chair before the music stopped.

Let’s just ask why doesn’t the PAC10 add the six best Big 12 teams?  Current PAC 10 with BYU, Ok St, tech, Kansas, Baylor, and one other. Big 12 is dead and we get out.

l hope the next round of TV contracts are short term so that somebody can come up with an overall plan before a disjointed mess gets locked in for the next 30 years.

All the remaining BIG12 and PAC teams are exploring there options,  asking the B1G and the SEC if they are interested,  and if the answer is no then each will try to figure out what is best for them. Very difficult to figure out how it shakes out. Obviously the BIG12 dissolving would be perfect for TX and OU.

USC playing at Maryland or Rutgers (NJ)? I'd watch Indiana vs Purdue over that.

How late is it in New Jersey with an 8 pm start in LA?

Nobody watches Rutgers in NJ.  Nobody watches Maryland. Those will be the west coast prime time games. If a tree falls…

The good games will start 5 pm pacific. 8 eastern or 6p/9e.

If nobody watches them, then why would their TV sets matter? Isn't it all about the TV sets?

And if so, wouldn't Oregon be a lot more attractive than a USC? When was the year they last filled the Coliseum?

Maryland isa proudprogram trying to recapturepast glory. They were a tough row to hoe when Tatum was there.

Because the east coast had to add the Big 10 network because of MD and Rutgers. But the ratings for OSU and Penn State games beat them out.  The Big 10 doesn’t care what Maryland or Rutgers thinks. They’ll make them play anytime because no one outside of Maryland watches them. Same with Rutgers.

TV is all anyone cares about. Even when they’re  bad, USC gets more eyeballs than Oregon. I’m not sure about UCLA and football. But both schools are excellent academically. Oregon can’t spell academically. That hurts them in the Big 10.

I don't think anything else happens until Notre Dame makes a choice - stay ACC or go B1G.

  • SEC will try to poach from ACC if ND goes B1G. Grant of Rights be damned.
  • Big 12 should try to get AZ, ASU, CO, and Utah, but maybe Pac-12 backfills with SDSU + Colorado St or another MTN school?

What a mess this is. I can't decide whose geography is worse - the new Big 12 or B1G's.
