Colt in better days

Colt McCoy was not horrible last season in Cleveland. In 13 games completed 57% of his passes, threw for 2700 yards with 14 td's and 11 picks. He was also under constant pressure with 32 sacks. Colt's time in Cleveland has been summed up by trying to play QB with no offensive line and inexperienced wide receivers.

Colt was also "blessed" with two very average, at best, wide receivers. Joshua Cribbs was a QB at Kent State and Greg Little was a RB for North Carolina-Chappel Hill who coverted to a WR and then got hurt.

but...what Colt really faces is observations like this:

His arm stands out as the strongest and most accurate of the quarterbacks on the Browns roster. He can reach any part of the field with his arm. The ability to make all the throws has shown up in camp with his deep accuracy on the long ball and his touch on screen passes to Trent Richardson.
The skills he has displayed should allow offensive coordinator Brad Childress the ability to use the entire playbook.
Weeden has also displayed the ability to handle the mental grind of learning the West Coast offense by coming back to the next practice and correcting previous mistakes.
The above quotes were about first round draft pick Brandon Weeden. This from the Cleveland media after "TWO" practices in training camp. Damn stop the presses, we have a scoop, Brandon Weeden has been crowned "Greatest QB in Cleveland Browns History."

Tuesday, after a week of training camp, head coach Pat Shumur named Weeden the starting QB and I guess the Browns are shoe ins for the Super Bowl.

Colt responded by saying the competition was not a competition after all.

"I would like to say that I haven't taken any snaps in walk-through or in practice with the first group," said McCoy, who wasn't even declared the No. 2 quarterback by Shurmur. "I've come out here and made myself better with the reps I've got and I feel really good and really healthy and I look forward to some preseason games coming up pretty quick."
Colt has never gotten a fair shake in Cleveland. As a rookie the media was all over Colt. He had no arm strength, didn't know the offense and was the most likely to be cut. In his two years he has two head coaches, no wide receivers, a porous offensive line and a media that thinks the Browns are one QB away from competing for the playoffs. He deserved better.

Beevomav, I couldn't agree with you more. The Browns had made up their minds even before draft day that Colt would not be the starting qb in Cleveland. We have discussed over and over on this board potential issues related to why he is getting the shaft but I wish a team that really needs a decent qb would pick him up and let him develop. While a depth chart after a week of camp doesn't solidify the season opening roster, in this case it does say a lot about the Browns and their plans for Colt.

He is a class act. God forbid Weeden were to get hurt and then they have to rely on McCoy. That would be fitting.

The Browns and the local media are treating Weeden like he is the second coming. The guy is 28 and has never taken a snap under center. Now he has this great arm strength. Plus Colt never had any quality receivers and of course they go out and get Weeden help.

I am not saying Colt is the answer but he deserved a better chance than no chance.

Different OCs every season, one off-season was strike-shortened, worst sill position support in the NFL.....it is a f##king miracle Colt performed as well as he did.

Amen to that. Cleveland is a career-killer and has been for a good while now. The only hope is for it is to provide a modest amount of fantasy points for us fantasy football addicts.

Trent Richardson is having knee issues & is on his way to see Dr James Andrews. Browns are cursed......

Cleveland should have stuck with Peyton Hillis. Liked him in Cleveland but I understand when you have a chance to take a guy like Trent Richardson you have to. Colt may play some this year. I hate to thing Holmgren would bench him for no other reason than to prove a point.

Holgren is the problem in Cleveland..When he is charge of personnel it is a disaster. Don't believe me just ask Green Bay or Seattle..

Hillis a sociology major at Hogg U? He think he's Jack Ryan or something?

pipe-dream

The Cleveland Browns organization sucks the big ass.

I also find it amusing that Browns fans are "scik and tired" of McCoy because he isn't winning. They think he has had his shot and it is time to give someone else a chance. He played in 2010 and bailed their asses out after they had nobody. Delhomme was hurt as was Seneca Wallace and he stepped up as a rookie and started 8 games for them. Then they threw him in as the starter in 2011 with no supporting cast.

If that is what Cleveland is about then Cleveland can kiss my Longhorn ass.

GO COLT.

Former Iowa State quarterback Seneca Wallace or Colt McCoy will likely get cut soon from Cleveland. As a backup Seneca makes 3.1 million and Colt less than that. Probably Seneca gets cut then.

*End of thread highjack

HAH. Thanks for coming in the forums bud. I like Wallace - always have but he is a little over the hill and probably has a limited shelf life in Cleveland - like McCoy. Brandon Weeden is SATAN!
