Coaching Changes-NCAA Football

For some reason the South Carolina boards think they are about to get Muschamp. I think it would be a good fit.

i wonder if he'll do better than pellini.
THIS is the issue. I have posting privileges on a private Nebraska board (roughly 100 of the fanatical Osborne worshiper types) and I would say that 98% of the members there were devastated by the news of this hire...and a few of those guys are heavy hitters. They don't think he stands a chance of improving on Bo's record.

I'm sure they will change their tune if Reily can return Nebraska to relevance...but it will not be an easy job. MUCH  more difficult task than what Charlie Strong faces.

That was a pretty quick decision.

While the desire for a speedy resolution is easy to understand from the various schools' perspectives, I am somewhat surprised Coach Boom did not want to take more time than that.

At least one other site is reporting that no decision has been made and that Muschamp is expected to take at least couple of weeks to make his decision.

I'm surprised that Muschamp would take another HCIW tag.  While I know it is probably a good situation for him financially, etc., I think he would have learned by now that this might not be the best title/promise to have hanging over your head.

FWIW - Scout is now reporting Muschamp to South Carolina is a done deal. Muschamp gets to bring his assistants and becomes the Head-Coach-in-Waiting.

Its a big deal to lose a head coach to recruits as we saw when mack was fired. I feel like this is even bigger when they start taking position coaches. Any chance we get some new recruits from UF with our staff having strong ties to that state?

Beaty is supposed to be a good recruiter.

So this will hurt aggy at least for a little while, and perhaps help KU better recruit Texas in the future.

Disagree with this.  As someone who's had their son and his HS team down there the last three years for the HS Team Football camps, and living up here in the PacNW, Riley is a really good coach that will do well at Nebraska.  He can recruit, and he runs a pretty good program.

He played at Alabama for Bear Bryant, was HC of the San Diego Chargers, and while the record at OSU doesn't light up the scoreboard, he has turned that program around.  He has taken OSU to three bowl games.  Prior to 2000, OSU had been to 6 bowl games....EVER.

Also of note, Riley turned down the HC job at USC twice and at Alabama.

I like the hire.  Riley is a high character guy, won't act like an ass hat like Pelini did, and he'll recruit the hell out of Texas.

+ Riley has proven to be a sneaky good talent evaluator and has gotten guys from recruit-rich Calif and Texas.

So, he should be able to continue to spot overlooked gems and get them to sign with the Bugeaters.

I'm amazed that Kansas hired a WR coach. I know he's worked at Kansas in the past and he's a good recruiter, but it doesn't happen often that a position coach is hired. I guess you have to take chances when your Kansas.

i'm most amazed they hired a coach whose waist size is under 50. they're going to actually have to buy new gear for the first time in years.

Beaty is a huge loss. Arguably their best recruiter (he owns Dallas). Not to mention he's one of their best position coaches.

Not a good day for the aggys. With Muschamp to South Carolina, it most likely means Auburn will make a run at Venables now.

A&M can't continue to have this much attrition in terms of coaches and players. You just can't win with that much attrition.

From fourth good source today, hearing Mike Gundy's last game as #OKState's head coach will be tomorrow in Norman...one way or another.

From another board. ***News about to come out that Mike Gundy pulled a Bobby Petrino

Just talked to a booster at OSU in Stillwater, told me that it's about to hit the airwaves there.

*EDITED* to be more specific....not crashing a motorcycle with a female not his wife in tow...but doing something else with a female not his wife

Ouch.  Very surprised that none of the Norman boys have run with this story.  If it's true, what a crazy mistake.
