Bill Powers LOVES Mack Brown and thinks he cannot hire a better replacement. Powers is paid to raise endowments and that includes keeping Joe and Red happy and they both want Mack back regardless of the Baylor outcome. From their very demented perspective, Mack has done great job this year with all the injuries and he has done enough for UT to choose when he leaves. Mack will not choose to leave after Baylor so Mack will be back in 2014. That is the reality and everything else is a distraction.Appears the "flow chart" works this way right now:

Been thinking the same thing. Cedric Reed to the NFL (real possibility it occurs) would be devastating blow to the defense.I personally don't see why Mack would even want to come back for one more year. There will be so many uncertainties for next season. Who will play QB, who will be the DC, will Major stick around. Add to all of this the constant pressure from the fan base and media it would make for a miserable time for Mack. I guess we need to just sit back let the final game of the regular season play out and go from there.

This is correct, why do you think they call them BMDs? If they're willing to cut off donations to the University over this, Powers has no choice but to comply.A contingent of BMDs who roll out some major donations on a regular basis are the motor to Powers' bus. If the motor don't run, the bus goes nowhere.
Holy crap I don't even know what to say to that post. It's time for mack to go and I've been a mack fan. Yes there are plenty of better choices.Bill Powers LOVES Mack Brown and thinks he cannot hire a better replacement. There is ZERO rational argument that Mack should stay after going 4-12 against Ou, OSU, BU and KSU over the last 4 years and losing at least 3 blow outs in 2013 but that has NOTHING to do with the decision criteria for Powers. You can believe whatever you want to about Red but Joe and Powers absolutely want Mack to stay and Joe has complete veto power and Red will not try to override Joe and Powers even if he could so Mack will stay.Holy crap I don't even know what to say to that post. It's time for mack to go and I've been a mack fan. Yes there are plenty of better choices.
As to red. He's not pushing for mack to return per several people including IT who has been reporting that for weeks. Some will say prove it but believe what you want. Even today concerning the public comment red made it's been reported that comment was bull$#@!. It's lip service for a friend and cover for him to go out as if this is all his choice to retire
I will choose not to.Folks, my guess is that Mack will either retire, or stay on. I am quite fine with it either way. I am a big fan of the University of Texas, and I am going to wholeheartedly support the team and the coaches. I have some second hand experience dealing with the kind of crap Mack has had to put up with the last few years, and understand that it doesn't really matter what the critics all say. Mack Brown has done an extraordinary job as head football coach at Texas. Like Coach Royal, he has had some below par years. Like Coach Royal, he has brought the team back. Unlike Royal, he has to deal with anonymous posters on Internet boards whose constant barrage of criticism and speculation makes his job ever so much more difficult. All of you experts on the game need to understand the damage you do to our university with this constant griping and complaining and speculation.
I am a fan of Mack Brown. Has he made some mistakes? Certainly. But in my nearly 7 decades of following college football, just about the worst coaching mistake I have ever seen was by everyone's Saint Nick at the end of the Auburn game last week with a national championship on the line..
So I will continue to back Mack and wish him well.
so you are on record no matter what Mack is absolutely staying without a doubt? Powers isnt stupid. there is plenty of weight behind the movement for Mack to leave with many heavy hitters on that side. You put together people like Bob Rowling, Tillerson, Hick's brothers, Moffett. and many more that have been talked about etc and they are more powerful than Joe or Red at this point in time not only in wealth but in current power. Those same people have also given big help to Powers politically during his fight with Rick Perry and his battle to stay on as president. He's not stupid enough to just turn his back all that level of people. There is ZERO rational argument that Mack should stay after going 4-12 against Ou, OSU, BU and KSU over the last 4 years and losing at least 3 blow outs in 2013 but that has NOTHING to do with the decision criteria for Powers. You may say well UT would never risk losing Jamails money, but I've never bought any notion Jamail at this age when push came to shove would sully his reputation and his legacy at UT by getting butthurt and cutting off his funds because UT changed head football coaches. He's defending a friend but he's not going to keep his body on the tracks all the way IMO. I've also heard there is a chance Powers retires in 6 months to a year, and I've never bought he will fight so definitively to keep Mack NO matter what when so many BMD want him gone.
We will just have to disagree
Isnt that a good thing, bc when Mack say he is retiring it will appear that it is Macks own will.Chip just said that the ONLY one who has say on Mack returning or not returning is Bill Powers. Also If Texas beats Baylor Mack may very well be back... Dear lord way too much smoke about Mack returning in 2014...

I think the Biggest concern is 1 man and the field is named after him.
