Someone on another thread mentioned Charlie Strong's wiki page, so i decided to take a look. Wow! The crap this guy has to put up with make me like him. A lot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Strong

Look in the upper right and click "view history."

"On January 3, 2014 Strong was named the Head Coach of the University of Texas. He was 10th on the list." The same contributor offered "Strong was born August 2, 1960 in Batesville, Arkansas. He and his wife, Victoria, have two daughters, Hailee and Hope; he has a son, Tory, from a previous relationship.[6] Coach Strong credits his daughter Hailee with inspiring his love of chicken." Since word was released, Charlie Strong's wiki page has been edited over 70 times (including revisions to previous versions to delete vandalism).

This fine individual created an anonymous wiki account on January 4, 2014, at 5:40 am just prior to making this edit and this was their only edit (I am not sure what the time stamp change is for Wiki. It looks like it is at least two hours), so this individual was up in the early morning hours, trashing Charlie Strong while knowing absolutely nothing about the man. It was done out of pure hate.

Does anyone have any idea which fan base we could possibly look to for they type of individual who would stay up all night spewing racist crap and saying "but, but he wasn't your first choice!" In the middle of the night last night, 14 accounts were created just to make edits to Charlie Strong's wiki page. In fact, the page has been locked to prevent newly created users from making even more edits. There were entries deleted from the page and from the log for "grossly improper content" from an account created solely to trash Charlie Strong's wiki page. If we only knew where hate like that resides. Gee if only edits like this would give anyone a clue: "He went on to coach at the University of Louisville and is now the coach at the Texas University."

Mack Brown was subjected to relentless personal attacks from members of certain fan bases simply because he was coach at the University of Texas. If you don't think those same fan bases aren't going to take those personal attacks to an entirely different level, you are sadly misguided. They have started already and they will be relentless. Quite frankly, I don't think Mack deserved those attacks and I certainly don't think Charlie Strong deserves what is already being thrown at him. However, we all know the caliber of individuals we deal with when we deal with certain competing fan bases, and that caliber is smoothbore.

The anonymous, chickensh!t crap is already starting. The best thing we can do is call out others when they start on it and let Charlie know that while we are going to be the most demanding fan base we will ever deal with, once he upgrades and starts wearing burnt orange, he has our unqualified support. I personally don't think Charles Strong is going to be affected by the crap that has already started being thrown at him, he doesn't deserve it. We all know which snot-nosed rednecks were up last night banging away at their keyboards in racist anonymity. Expect a lot more of it from them. Just don't miss an opportunity to call them out for it.

He had a lot of crap from FL fans when he was running things back then, there's a LOT of racism on the southeast coast. However, my husband and I were talking this morning about how ugly the racism is here in Texas. It's different, we were saying, maybe because there's a smaller minority population? I'll never forget leaving Louisiana in high school, coming to Georgetown, and asking myself, "Where's all the black people?" My husband said in LA it was like you learned growing up that racism exists, but you 'know' black people, you know they're good people, hard working, etc., as opposed to here where we've met people who literally have never 'known' any people of color on a friendly level. Their vitriol is a lot stronger.

I don't know, however inarticulately, I'm just trying to say racism is everywhere and while Texas has a more progressive class of alumni than most, there's still a lot of ugly, racist people around here.

When I was in college there wasn't a single professor that'd let us use Wikipedia as a credible source-- for the very reasons you mentioned. Anyone can put anything on there.

Looking forward to the future of Texas football. Time to get back on top. Hook'em.
