Buechele update - 9/7/17

Play Sam for SJSU the entire game.  Let Shane rest and play him for USC.  Sam needs the reps anyways.  Why take a chance on Shane getting really hurt before conference play.

Maybe they know Sam will start but want SJSU preparing for both. I mean, we got trucked by Maryland so who knows.
This. Though Beck was talking as though Sam was starting in his media availability.

I think you go Sam 85%, Heard 15%. Both guys need snaps, because I'm not sure either Shane or Sam can make it through this season healthy.

You don't put Heard in at all unless you absolutely have to.

IMO, if Herman is as smart as we think he is, he starts Ehlinger.

It's Thursday and Buechelle hasn't taken a snap all week. Now we hear its a bit better but that he's going to "try" to practice.

We're two days from kickoff. You can't run this offense with a bum shoulder and even if you could, you risk injuring Buechele even more just before we face USC.

We can beat SJSU without Buechele and we should.
As succinct as can be said. Agree.

PURE SPECULATION

Watching the game Saturday I thought Buechelle was hurt, and possibly slightly concussed, when he was blown up at the goal line on the first offensive drop back for Texas.  Maybe it really is his shoulder.  Maybe both his brain and his shoulder were injured.  Just my opinion.

Sam is not ready to run the offense.  Here's a thought:  Don't run the offense.  Run what Sam can run.  The stupid play is to attempt to have him run what he has not mastered.  I think Sam is a winner and tough.  That will show if he is given the chance to succeed.  If he cannot run enough of the offense to succeed then play Heard.  Same drill for Heard.  Run only what he is capable of.
"when he was blown up at the goal line on the first offensive drop back for Texas" ... my exact analysis upon several reviews of that play few days back.

Slo-mo shows both feet came off the ground and, ball tucked into his belly, he led into the defender with his throwing shoulder ... going down on his left shoulder, with the defender landing on top of him on his throwing shoulder. Wonder a collar bone was not broken/stressed.

I disagree. You have to play him. You can't have him completely cold if Shane and Sam get hurt. Plus, I'm not sure you play him at all at WR. This is what happens when you go into the season with 2 guys coming off of injury and don't go get a veteran.

Sounds about right. Need Shane completely healed and ready for USC game, and week long practice. Start and play Sam and work Heard in for that amount of plays maybe more. Get two backups 'up' to game speed and ready to play on the first road game.

They tried for a veteran- can't help that he didn't come. Play with the hand that's dealt and hope it's god enough

well.....cant help but agree with you....until you make that last statement....hmmmm...I guess even that is true, but the way you write it makes it sound like you are assigning blame. Are you even real?

If the O-line gives a repeat performance of last week the coaches better starting looking for Heard's  backup.

I am assigning blame. Herman made the same mistake that Charlie made, in not fixing the most important position on the field. Anu Solomon ended up at Baylor in January, never heard his name mentioned here. I know we tried for Zaire, and he made a poor decision. They are trying to run a West Coast offense with him, and it didn't go well at all against Michigan. I really hoped that Zaire would pick Texas. There were probably a few other guys out there from non-P5, FCS, and JUCOs as well. I don't an exhaustive search was made.

Wait a minute. You're assigning blame to Herman for not "getting" a transfer QB, and then admit that Zaire should have come to Texas? This isn't the NFL where you can throw money at a free agent at a position of need and your problem is solved. A player has to decide to come here. Even if there were other guys out there in G5/FCS/JUCO, there's no guarantee that they would have been worth a scholarship or that they would have had any interest in coming to UT.

Dude, Solomon led Baylor to a loss – TO LIBERTY – AT HOME.

Maybe Herman is smarter than you think?

Baylor is complete trash right now. Anu won 10 games as a freshman in a P5 conference, and is a better athletic fit for what Herman/Beck want do with the position. You are right, Herman has forgotten more about the sport than any of us will ever know, but that doesn't mean he made a good decision to go into the season with two QBs, both coming off of injuries.

Grad transfers typically want to go to a place where they could start  and with Shane returning I'm not sure that did Texas any favors. The staff kicked tires on some guys, but nothing came of it.

I don't know what the deal was on Solomon because I never heard him mentioned or connected to Texas.

Well we only have 2 QB's on the roster.  If Shane gets hurt which is more suspect to injury just due to his build then we still have Sam.  We need Shane healthy before conference play.  If there is one game on the schedule where Sam has the best chance to suceed its SJSU.  Besides he is built like a LB.  Its all we have as far as QB's therefore playing only Sam seems the logical choice.
