Big 12 Head of Officials Walt Anderson discussed several rule changes.

• There will be 8 officials on the field this season.
• The oversized facemasks you used to see.... will be no more.  The Big 12 has nixed them.
• Questionable roughing the punter calls will utilize instant replay even more.
• Targeting will be heavily monitored.
• Onside kicks will be looked at closely.  Anderson cited blocking before the ball reaches the line of scrimmage as an example of why it needs to be monitored.

1. Linemen can be 3 yards beyond the LOS.

2. The judgment should be made when the ball is released, not when it's caught.

Regardless of it's difficulty, officials will focus more this season on the problem/infraction.

After listening to Anderson, it is a good thing they increased the officials on field to 8.  All plays are going to be under the microscope this season - I applaud the Big 12 for the focus and emphasis on getting the plays right.
