Big 12 Expansion Project

What can be said is a conference network is dead. Now that TV sets are no longer the overriding issue, there is still a slight possibility at expansion. I am not an expand at all costs believer. Personally, I would like to set up the SEC firewall by adding UH and would probably add Cincinnati as well.

Why is it a good deal for other conferences to add Texas when the LHN is still active?

I'd choose UC and UH, too, if we expand. I think they're more like Big12 schools culturally.

Better fits, IMO

Embrey is correct. Network is dead. Expansion is not. I honestly expect an announcement at the end of summer saying we're adding two teams to the conference. Then it will be a matter of who those two are. I'd imagine they'll have a good idea going in.

Houston is hoping to go West of shunned by the Big 12? Texas needs to pay close attention to this poker hand and figure out if it has any momentum. I doubt it does.

Doubtful, but who knows?

UH would be a good fit in the Pac12 if fan engagement is the barometer. They rarely sell-out their games either.

Pac-12 needs CST or EST markets badly. UH badly needs into the P5. Could be a good match, but I'm not sure if the Pac-XX would consider adding a high school.

The Big 12 should absolutely NOT add UH. Ever. No need to allow a 6th P5 school in Texas; just another in-state school to recruit against.

If Baylor brings back Briles, we should replace them with Cincy, but that's about all the expanding we should do for now.

Breaking ties with Baylor would be awkward if not difficult during a time when expansion is the talk. Maybe they don't blink and just add three. Maybe Baylor's recent success would make them gun shy about giving BU the boot?

Who knows, but it seems clear where priorities are at Baylor.

I mentioned in another thread that the Southern Baptist Conv. will likely have something to say (a governing body/affiliation). I read a column in the baptist standard (SBC's monthly mag) that was published before things really blew up at Baylor. It basically said, "we're watching and we're not liking what we're seeing. Your priorities are messed up."

For those who'd readily dismiss this, ask yourself "What motivation does The Wizard have to make it up?"

At the end of the media days today the Big 12 announced it will add as many as four members and it will start taking applications immediately, including what they’d propose making.

Yes, you heard that right, they are asking the incoming teams to list what they’d be willing to be paid until 2024, or eight years from now.  It is like an anti-bid or, at least, asking a team to honestly value itself.  Someone like LSU could say “$35 millionâ€, but could Tulane do the same when they make $3 million a year now?   Not likely.

Just spitballing here but I believe it is no coincidence that we hear that new teams are asked how much being part of the BIG 12 is worth to them.

I read this as saying, 'Are you willing to pay a disproportionate share to help the BIG 12 buy out Texas' LHN deal with ESPN so that this conference can have a network?'

Further, I actually think adding 2-4 teams helps stabilize the BIG 12's future if Texas wants to leave after the GOR is expired. Win-win.
