I appreciate Texas for all that it is, God Bless you all, not a troll or looking to start an argument, just a discussion and better understanding.

but logically, if Coach Saban needed another $5 million a year, or someone to pony up $30 million or even more to cover any "real estate losses"...do you really, truly believe that Bama wouldn't come up with that?

The U of A Chancellor (over all 3 branches of the UA system, Original Bama, plus the Medical/Dental/Optmometry center in Bham, and the AeroNautics, Engineering and Space center in Huntsville) has already said that Coach Saban was the BEST investment the U of A system EVER made.

And he is the ONLY boss Coach Saban reports to, no, not the AD or anybody else, just the Chancellor.

I grew up in Tuscaloosa, in a nice neighborhood. When Northern friends came to visit they were always shocked to see how wealthy we were. We didn't understand their shock. We don't get that the outside world thinks Alabama or Tuscaloosa is poor. You guys have no idea of the money in Tuscaloosa. It may not be Texas across the board, but trust me, we can easily pony up whatever is needed to keep Coach Saban happy. How much would ya'll pay him to leave Bama? $8 million, $10 million, $20 million?????? The public won't allow you guys to pay him an amount that we can't match. That is just the way it is. Yes, you could outbid us, if it got ridiculous ....but will the public allow you to pay a coach $30-50 million a year? Saban is already worth $75 million a year over and above any cost to the program due to his salary. You are not going to offer anything approaching that sum.

So, if Coach Saban leaves, it will be not over money. Just drop that angle.

If he leaves for another reason that we can't control, then I would say, "Coach Saban, God Bless you, thanks for all that you did, and Godspeed in your future endeavors"

I hope you guys get a great coach, it is better in the College Football world when Alabama, Texas, USC, Notre Dame, etc are all successful. The greatest feeling in the world is to know that you went up against the best and won.

William

I am on the record as saying the exact same thing. If Saban leaves it will not be about money. It will be for one reason only BECAUSE HE WANTS TOO

I have to agree with MB here. IF Saban leaves, it's for another challenge, a personal goal or a a change of scenery, not money.

If you believe that then you don't really realize the realities of the Saban's financial situation and how they feel about it. The money is a VERY BIG deal to them. Why do you go to work every day....for the challenge or for the money?

Yes but I think Bama BMD's can do this for him too.. JMHO

needless to say, he has it made right now.....

I wish you guys could see his home,...I tried to buy into that neighborhood 20 years ago when I was still in Tuscaloosa. Crown Pointe is its name, ...just utterly amazing homes and views on the bluffs overlooking Lake Tuscaloosa.

and they love their Church there in Tuscaloosa as well.

My high school classmate made GQ magazine in their report on Saban a month or two ago. Plays golf with him whenever Saban plays and is his confidant. He is sworn to secrecy since can't get anything out of him ;)

BACK UP YOUR CLAIMS..you are talking out your rear end. YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION. quit acting like it.

how much could he have possibly lost?

let's say since arriving at Bama at $5 million a year, and been there 7 years, so after taxes he would have around $2 million a year to invest. So that makes $14 million. Easily taken care of.

His home in Crown Pointe was essentially given to him, boosters took care of it. It is worth $5 million easily.

Willie, welcome to Horn Sports. We are looking forward to seeing how our coaching search plays out when the job becomes available in Austin. Bama has a great coach - one of the finest of all time (how we feel about the Great DKR). Good luck in the Iron Bowl on Friday.

man this is getting old. There are some very legitimate people who are reporting on this right now. If you dont want to believe it without documented proof then you are entitled to do that...but do you have to call out basically anyone who puts out info on the saban situation and demand they prove it to you? They dont owe you anything

You can think that but it wouldn't be true. The 'Bama BMD's have had almost 6 years to do it and it hasn't happened. Besides, would you really trust the same people that lost you $30M and didn't make up for it in another round of investments when they finally came begging after not having done so in the 6 previous years....after you've won them 3 MNC's? Life doesn't work like that in the real world. You trust people who deliver what they say they're going to deliver. We've done that...the 'Bama BMD's have failed miserably over an extended period of time.

I have always enjoyed my time with Texans, your attitude is what made America great!

My heart is in Alabama for sure, but wouldn't mind a home in Texas as well ;)

WillieBoy, good to have you on here. My work takes me to Huntsville a few times a year and it is beautiful. The German scientist Von Braun, credited by many to be the father of rocket science, said the Huntsville area reminded him of the German countryside.

I'm not going to pretend to know what motivates Nick and/or Terry Saban, but I'll try to explain the general thought that has been circulating around here. Texas > Alabama .... No, no I'm just serious. Ok, really, the thought is that Nick has carried some large financial losses from investments with Alabama BMD's, where Nick put up a substantial amount of cash. It's no secret that Nick's useful life span as a HC is probably closer to 3 years than it is to 10 years. But it is not about the contract $, although that would reportedly be in the $7-$8M range. Now, Alabama could certainly match something like that, I believe Paul Bryant, Jr. Has been quoted as saying he would help to make that true. The real draw would be the off the university books $ in the form of investments in industries less volatile and with a higher ceiling than real estate. Namely, oil & gas. Again, I don't personally know this to be true this is just one of the arguments I have heard.

As I said to a good friend of mine over lunch today, this is all just speculation on our parts, none of us really know what is going to happen. This time period is kind of fun for us because the possibilities are nearly (through our burnt orange colored glasses) limitless. We are all ready for a change and to get back supporting our team without question and we need someone at the helm who can take us there right away. We, just like your fan base, have the highest of expectations and expect results. Nothing short of competing for a national championship will do.

Hook 'Em!

Appreciate your insights, but if you think Bama BMD's can hold a stick to the O&G investments that a guy like Tillerson can offer, then I don't know what to say...not saying yips happened or is happening, but that type of money is ridiculous.

...thank you willieboybama as per your post...

i for one, welcome the idea of bama nation venturing over to longhorn nation in a subtle fashion to size up the dialogue. we have soooo many queries, you have soooo many queries... for this is just the nature of the beast.

in all honesty, upon many of my post, i have duly stated that "i just cannot foresee "nick roll/tide saban" departing the adoring masses of the "land of cotton" to venture into the "land of the burnt orange sunset" to take the helm of the university of texas head coaching vacancy. however, upon every posting, the very realist in me... is highly aware of the very fact that, nick saban is indeed just a man. and when it comes to money / ambition... the grass is indeed greener upon the "longhorns" pasture... and this also include the hay...

so please willieboybama (please know that us texans can fully understand you sentiment) and i for one would never ever be so arrogant as to undervalue the living conditions of the city of tuscaloosa, al. (actually, the proof is in the very pudding) you taking the initiative to come a very popular longhorn website to visit and present your views... show us just how "valuable" vs passionate a fan that you are to the alabama crimson tide fandom.

therefore, i wish you and your team the very best upon your forthcoming gridiron matches. best of luck should you get to the mnc (please win it all, as the "tide" deserves it)....

...but please bare in mind, that we are "longhorn nation", and we are just as passionate a fanbase as there is upon this planet. we may be down these last few years upon several of our athletic programs, but please know that we are gracious, we are patient, and we are by far the richest.... and should nick saban decide to venture over to our side... there shall be no looking back. hook'em!

My wife is a Bama grad, lived in Prattville for most of her life. I loathe Alabama mostly because I have to endure with championship after championship in my house and unfortunately it is not from Texas.

Im sorry. But legitimate people usually have some evidence to back up there claims. Whats really getting old are people thinking they know that "Saban lost a lot of money" or that "Saban is 100% our next head coach". I call out people that make claims in order to take advantage of fellow UT fan's. The job isnt even open yet some think they know who our next coach will be or the financial situation is of anyone besides themselves. They dont owe me anything but dont be mad when you get called out because you cant provide anything besides "my friend that works in the AD" or "my friend that is friends with those in charge". if it was known that Saban is indeed the next UT coach i seriously doubt that the Vegas odds would be where they are. They arent ones that like to lose money. It would also be on EVERY MAJOR NETWORK. Its not and nothing substantial besides claims of "my friends friend said this". It must be easy to go thru life where you dont need evidence in order to believe something. put your money where your mouth is. place a sizable bet on Saban becoming the next head coach. Hell, you believe people that couldnt even get the AD prediction right. If some of their stories lined up Id be singing a different tune, but the fact is that NOTHING they have predicted is true. You need to reevaluate your sources cause they arent good.
