The NFL draft is being held and over the first two days Texas joins FSU, Pitt, Florida, TCU, UCLA and Tennessee as the only Division One schools who didn’t have a player selected in the first three rounds of the draft.
The Longhorns last national championship was in 2005 and the followiing 2006 draft they had four players taken in the first three rounds. Led by Vince Young and Michael Huff in the first, then followed by Cedric Griffith(2nd) and David Thomas(3), Texas had success on the field and at the draft table.
Lack of recruiting does more than hurt the on field team. It hurts future recruiting. Premier high school athletes want to go where they will be noticed and drafted. Having a draft like this years is not good for anyone involved in UT Football.
We seem to have turned it around with this years class and the early verbal commits from 2013 and we have history on our side. Texas is number eight in players who have played in the NFL.
Good luck to all the Longhorns in this years draft class. Keenan Robinson, Emanuel Acho and Kheeston Randall are all projected as fourth round picks. Sadly my guy Fozzy is not expected to be drafted.
With better recruitment and the coaching changes I am hopeful this year is a bump in the road and I certainly look forward to seeing all our Longhorns available draft picks not only play in the NFL but hopefully for one of our teams.
