ANYTHING SPRING FOOTBALL!!

If Swoopes is the starter and does perform, the Gilbert era will be short lived at Texas because the HC offers will be flowing to him.
Don't think so. I know people who know people....

I don't know who this Higs character is that y'all speak of, and don't really care. This is Gilbert's, what, 4th time in 4 years installing this offense? And it's been successful at every stop. I think the guy knows what he's doing. And if he can do it with the guys at Tulsa, I shutter to think of how much more amazingly effective it'll be with these hosses at Texas. Hook Em!

Agree and it's not like we don't know if the Baylor offensive system will work in the Big 12.

MAN!!!  We seem to have some pretty good quarterback coaches on this here website ... seems like some of them have their dander up about who should and should not be the offensive general next year.  Makes me wonder why we had to pay them guys from Tulsa so much money!!!   ;)

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Third time you're just a fool

This might be the dumbest post ever. 2009 was last year we had decent QB play. Obviously you don't watch the games or you would know this. The QB position play is either going to save Strong or get him fired.

UT's best player and probably it's best recruiter.

Texas' Malik Jefferson growing comfortable as leader

AUSTIN, Texas -- Before spring practice began, Texas coach Charlie Strong made sure to share some advice with his most prized pupil. Malik Jefferson, Texas’ dreadlocked wunderkind and the "unofficial mayor of Austin," as his coaches have joked, needed a little wisdom about the burden of expectations.

"So much is said about him. So much is written about him. It’s almost like it’s been placed on him," Strong said. "I said, 'Don’t feel like it’s all on your shoulders. You have enough guys around you. You just lead by example, lead by the way you work, and everybody else will follow you.'"

After a season of instant stardom, the sophomore version of Jefferson is stronger, smarter and significantly more prepared to embrace a real leadership role.

"I’ve earned my stripes," Jefferson said. "I hope my teammates respect that, and I respect them. We have a big goal to accomplish, and it’s going to take all of us, just not one."

Though he seems perfectly comfortable as the grinning face of Texas football, many aspects of Jefferson’s celebrated rookie season put him outside his comfort zone.

He played on a five-win team, on the second-worst scoring defense in school history. He played through a frustrating illness late in the season. He missed the stunning season-ending upset of Baylor because of an ankle injury.

He was accustomed to being a leader, but wasn’t quite sure how to assert himself as a true freshman among veterans. He had to figure out how to thrive as a middle linebacker instead of playing edge rusher. He says he had to learn how to manage his time as a student.

The accolades -- freshman All-American, Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year -- were deserved. But for Jefferson, 2015 was in many ways a tough season.

"Every week you’d go out and wonder, 'Are we going to be ready to play today?'" he said. "That’s the mindset we have to change. We have to get ready to play every game this year."

Jefferson backed that talk up this offseason with his efforts to surround himself with more like-minded young stars. He worked hard to personally recruit safety Brandon Jones, linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch and several of Texas’ top signees.

When all the dominoes fell for the Horns on signing day, Jefferson and his buddies Charles Omenihu and DeShon Elliott were standing by Strong’s side in the coaches' war room.

"We worked long hours just trying to get those guys," Jefferson said. "And they wanted to talk to us, and that was very important. I think that’s why we got a lot of guys."

Just as his head coach said: When Jefferson leads, people follow. He intends to capitalize on that role in 2016. As for his on-field role? He’s open to expanding that, too.

Jefferson would love to line up on the edge and rush the passer like Von Miller, the guy he idolized in his high school days. "That’s what I live to do," he says. But he will do whatever he can to help.

"It’s all about what the team needs," he said. "Me being at Mike [linebacker], if that’s the best position for me at this time, I have to accept it and grow in it."

Either way, Jefferson is ready to accept all that will be thrust upon him in Year 2. He’s not afraid to admit he felt he took a backseat as a leader last season. That won’t happen again.

"It was hard. Very hard. But I knew in my mind that I had to do it," Jefferson said. "Honestly, it’s helping me now."

Wrong! David Ash was good in 2012.

It is obvious you do NOT read other's post before you call them the dumbest.  Go back and read what he said- his comment was in regard to how many of us here feel we have the answer to our qb problem and wondering why we are paying Gilbert such big money.  You did this same type of thing some time ago to Sirhornsalots' posts.

The sarcasm went over his head.

I sure don't have the answer but I was using the old trick for answering a multiple choice question. Step one: Rule out the obvious wrong answer. I can't even go to Step two...I'm obviously a poor test taker and I was using my notes. There are two scenarios I could see with the QB competition. One is me being wrong about Swoopes (that's an extremely remote possibility). The other is Gilbert forcing Heard to step up his effort by using the "I'm gonna start Swoopes" routine.
