Another Aggy arrested

I really hope aggie doesn't care.

Keep doing what you're doing in evaluating your recruits.  Check out their ballyhooed 2013 class.  How many of these boys have been arrested?  How many are no longer with the team?

Don't kid yourself - this lack of discipline shows up on the field.  I mean, their defense was ranked 109th in the NCAA last year.  It's a hot mess.

I'd be surprised if high-profile defensive recruits like Jefferson & Mack don't reconsider UT if aggie lays another egg this season.  The arrests can't help sway their parents' opinions.
Let's see, if the Ags improve their defense by 30% this year, which would be a stretch, and all else remains the same, that would very generously put them at 76th.  Is that correct?  I did it quickly in my head, so correct me if I'm wrong.

That defense could actually be worse next year if it's possible. If they lose Stansbury it's going to be a bloodbath. There's not a single position that I think is even locked down on the defense, it's that bad.

How many Division I teams?  120 or 121?  It can't get much worse in terms of numeric standing.

Hook 'em!

guy's, listen to yourselves... obviously, no one really cares.  aTm, has had their share lately, of a constant stream of negative episodes.  and yet, they are the top collegiate force upon our great state of TEXAS in recruitment.  therefore, apparently something is going right for them in college station.  upon the eyes of some of this state's best recruits.. aTm, has all of the momentum... in spite of the mug shots.

There were almost 100 of the state's premier recruits at DKR last night. They say "Hi!" to your post.

No, they don't. They've had decommits to Baylor and Tech I think. They have three big studs on the recruiting list. One of those is pretty iffy and may end up in burnt orange before it's done.

And this is before the pitiful season ahead. There is no Johnny Manziel. There will be a regular human at the QB spot. Alabama will stomp a mud hole in aggie as will a few others. And it will be all on national TV for all these recruits to see.

Talk toward the end of the season will be about Sumlin's contract and how to get out of it. But he's just as interested in leaving as they will be in him coaching somewhere else.

And just like that, the momentum that was in part manufactured isn't there and never really was. What aggy has is a care-free program much like OU had in the 70s. So naturally, the kids who see the potential short cut to glory are going to be turned on to that. But in the end, you cannot breed corruption with corruption and get anything worthwhile.

Aggy is like a beach ball at a rock concert. The only reason it stays aloft is because people keep it aloft.

Setting all BS aside how can KS allow this to continue with nothing more than a slap on the hand. Hell fire as the parent of a kid who is thinking about going  to a$m I would be asking who is in control of the ship. That is the question I would ask the coach long before there is even a in house visit. We can laugh at this but sending a good kid into that program after 4 years what do you get a thug. My friends y'all have a great week

I know a number of ags who believe their rise will follow the pattern of Miami's rise during the 80s and who aren't concerned in the least. They needed a culture change, they are getting their culture change and they have all the confidence in the world that Sumlin will "make adjustments."
There also isn't any concern about recruiting because the main priority for top recruits is to have the opportunity to play in the SEC because it gives them the best shot at playing in the NFL. Besides, good kids will be able to stay out of trouble and the attrition just ensures the recruit has an even better shot at early playing time surrounded by the best recruits and that makes what was the best shot at playing in the NFL even better.

They believe Sumlin cares about his players and wants to give them the best shot at reaching their goal to play in the NFL and Sumlin is doing that by keeping off field issues off the field and helping the kids work out their "lessons of youth" and not harming their chances to play in the NFL. Don't forget that Manziel probably wouldn't have won the Heisman under any other coach.

a&m is the 3 year leader for all off football teams in America, South America, EU and Russia for ARREST of team members.....

"A lack of discipline off of the field is demonstrated in a lack of discipline on the field."   That has always been true in high school, college, and the pros.

"The U" looks at their championship trophies and laughs. It was cutting out the thuggery that hurt their performance. Meanwhile, the conference that yet again this year has a hammerlock on the Fulmer Cup is also seen as the best conference by a mile.

It has been a long time since we can say that character won a championship.

the U didn't retroactively invent national championships  they won them. they didn't go ape-shit over come from behind bowl wins over Duke and they would never have been picked preseason 6th in a 7 team division.

comparisons to Miami in the 80s and 90s are well, very aggy-ish at this point.

You might remind your friends that Miami actually won something. Aggy keeps finding the middle of the pack of a division of a conference.

At least with Miami, you could actually ask "was it worth it?"

With aggy, you can only ask "WTF were you thinking?"

Obviously, I am not being direct enough. The comment I was responding to had to do with the relationship between discipline off the field relating to discipline on the field. My direct comment was that the lack of discipline off or on the field had nothing to do with winning championships. I didn't directly compare aggy to the heyday of Miami. The reality is that neither character nor discipline off the field are essential to win championships. It is a fact that aggy seems to have a large number of character risks and teams that have had a number of character risks have performed very well in recent decades.

I think that aggys recruitment of character risks will enhance aggy's chance of winning a championship, not hinder it. The conference that is almost universally considered the best performing on the field and the conference most highly respected recruits seem to prefer is the conference that has the most character risks, year in and year out. Teams recruiting character risks seem to outperform teams who avoid them.

Duke, I'd agree not every recruit should be an alter boy but eventually stuff catches up with you. How many of the ags 2013 class aren't around anymore?
Army, Navy, BYU, Texas Tech and Rutgers probably have a higher proportion of recruiting classes still on the roster than aggy, Bama, LSU or Auburn but which teams performed better last year and which teams are expected to better this year?

There is simply nothing to indicate teams with fewer players arrested outperform teams with higher numbers of players arrested. In fact, looking at Fulmer Cup statistics, one would believe teams with higher number of players having arrest issues perform quite well. We shouldn't stress character and integrity because doing so might help us win championships. We should stress character and integrity because character and integrity are our values as a group.

There's a big difference between having a few arrests/dealing with character issues and losing critical players. "Character and integrity" may not impact a team to a large degree, but once you lose players that has a significant impact. Andre Ware pretty much said this on College Football Live a few weeks ago. Essentially, Ware said that A&M was rebuilding with the 2014 class because of so much attrition with the 2013 class. People may not see it now but losing players like Claiborne, Golden, and Miles sets teams back a couple years.

It has nothing to do with "higher proportion of recruiting classes", it has to do with losing key pieces. A&M has lost 5 of its top 10 players from the 2013 class.Sure turnover has an impact but the biggest problem are the type of players A&M is losing. I'm also not sure why you are comparing the likes of BYU/Tech with the likes of A&M/Bama/LSU? If anything you should be comparing A&M with the likes of Bama, LSU and Auburn. Which is why I posted the adjusted 247 class rankings of SEC West teams a few weeks ago. Your view is misguided because comparing Tech with the likes of Aggy is nonsensical. Aggy's performance is going to be based on roster differences between other SEC teams.
