I was having this conversation on Tony Romo and the other person in the conversation made an interesting point on Romo. He said "Romo is good but not good enough to overcome bad teammates."
It got me to thinking on the point and I have concluded that it is a legitimate point and true.
I have always been a Tony Romo fan and have defended him against the idiots who say he is not a winner or such other nonsense but this point makes sense. It is also consistent with my point on Tony. I have never said he is a HOF QB or the best in the NFL. I have consistently maintained he is really good and top 7 to 10 QB.
I looked at the starting QB's in the league and applied the same criteria to them. How many QB's in today's NFL can you say they can overcome bad teammates and still win and not only that but win against other good teams.
First the ones I think can win without a good team around them: Brady, Brees, Rogers, Peyton.
Next level..ones that can win but need a more complete team: Romo, Eli, Rivers, Vick, Stafford.
Further down the chart is too early to tell..this list includes Cam Newton and nearly all the other young QB's who have not been around long enough.
The rest of the league's QB's seem to need a complete team and have to be controlled. IE number of attempts or dumping the ball..
Turns out Tony needs a better defense and a running game just like most other quarterbacks in the league.
I am sure I missed some other QB's. What are your thoughts?
