Sounds like Omenihu had a good day in the scrimmage. That's not all that surprising. Intelligent players like that should thrive in Strong's system. Bedford/Strong will likely put you in a position to make plays if you can grasp some of the complicated packages they throw at you. I also think this was part of the problem with Cherry, not just a physical problem. Sounded like he was having a difficult time from a mental aspect at grasping what Strong/Bedford/BJM wanted him to do.

IMO we are stacked at Fox. Omenihu should be good in a couple years (FR), Roberson has been raved about in fall practices (RS FR). Hughes is the projected starter (SO). Also throw Bluiett in the mix who played well at the end of the year (JR).

Matter of fact, one of these guys will probably have to end up at a different position. We will need more than one of these guys on the field at a time come next year.

Definitely stacked at Fox.  Hughes will get the start this season but Omenihu won't be playing around - he wants that job really bad.  Last visit to his house by coaches before NSD, Charles wanted to know hear again what position he would be playing at Texas.  When they told him Fox, he breathed a sigh of relief and was ready to roll.

The shakeup mentioned above was adding Vahe to the first unit.

This is all second-hand, but they say this has been the first unit for last couple practices (subj to change, of course).

left to right --  Williams, Flowers, Doyle, Vahe, Perkins

Second unit -- Hutchins, Rodriguez, Raulerson, Hodges, Nickelson

Here is Scipio on the OL  http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2015/8/15/9160655/texas-longhorn-camp-update-august-15th-2015

Freshman Patrick Vahe continues to get looks with the 1s at guard. That slides Perkins out to tackle and puts Marcus Hutchins out of the line-up. As you know, Wickline is a best five proponent. Conventional depth charts are immaterial in understanding what player replaces another - he's trying to create the best sum of five parts. Right now this is tinkering, pay more attention if it's happening a week from now.

Connor Williams starts in South Bend.

The first four Longhorns WRs are Marcus Johnson, Daje, Armanti Foreman & John Burt.  We have the most options at the slot and inside (Warrick, Bernard, walk-on Ty Templin), the fewest outside (Leonard has disappointed, I can't get word on Joe).  All of the receivers have been dropping balls like crazy.

On the defense --

Tank Jackson is running 2nd team at nose tackle since he missed the Spring.  Paul Boyette is playing nose and the early returns point to better play from him at the point of attack. Poona Ford is disruptive at 3, but we need Ridgeway back.

Hassan Ridgeway has a back injury and the coaches are being cautious with him.  He's sitting out some drills and contact work for now.  The whole defense is premised on his disruptive abilities.  It's not just what Hassan can do - it's what he can free other players up to do.

Bluiett is still feeling the effects of his knee injury.  Naashon Hughes has been out dealing with some academic work.

Jinkens is showing better.  The coaches challenged his physicality and he's responding.  Jinkens has a history of flashing, earning a starter's role and then being benched.  Every year, in fact.  We'll see if anything has changed.

Some more stuff --

Holton Hill returned Wed and allowed to fully participate Thurs.  He is starting with the 3rd unit.

Several folks saying all the young DBs look good.

Deshon Elliott is wearing a big boot, on crutches.

Charles Omenihu being talked about alot -- taking advantage of the time he is getting at the FOX position as Naashon Hughes is out (root canal).  And Caleb Bluiett/Derick Roberson have had other stuff to worry about.
