So these three out of four teams beat the crap out of A&M ...... SO what. So would Baylor, TCU, and KSU, and half the Pac 12. OU would probably spank them too. You think Oregon or Mich State wouldn't hammer A&M and Arkansas ? Bama nearly lost to Arky. They have no business in the top ten.  This is just the ESPN hype machine's way to guarantee at least two $EC teams in the final four. This is getting totally ridiculous.

In the 1971 college football season, Big Eight teams finished ranked #1 (Nebraska), #2 (Oklahoma) and #3 (Colorado) in the nation in the AP Poll – the only time in college football history teams from one conference have held the top three spots in the final poll.

In the final AP Poll issued before the Big Eight became the Big 12, half of the conference's teams were ranked in the nation's top 10 (#1 Nebraska, #5 Colorado, #7 Kansas State, #9 Kansas).

The polls don't have much to do with who gets into the playoff.  There's a selection committee.  Sure, rankings will be taken into consideration, but there will also be other factors. 

Also keep this in mind:

1. Miss St.: Still has to play Alabama & Ole Miss
2. FSU: No currently ranked teams remain on their schedule.
   
3. Ole Miss: Still has to play LSU, Auburn & Miss St.
   
4. Alabama: Still has to play Miss St. & Auburn
   
5. Auburn: Still has to play Ole Miss, Georgia & Alabama
   
6. Oregon: Have only #19 Utah remaining as a ranked opponent on their schedule.
   
7. Notre Dame: Still has to play #14 Arizona St & #20 USC, both on the road.
   
8. Michigan St: Has #13 Ohio St remaining.
   

The SEC division leaders will also have to play one another in the SEC Championship Game.

This still has a long way to go and a lot of this will sort itself out by the end of the regular season.

It's really not that hard to argue... Bama is entirely overrated(see game vs arky). Stomping the most overrated team in our great land is no feat. Auburn got obliterated by Miss St and Miss St gave them every opportunity to take that game. Bama is not a top 5 team. The SEC is garbage outside of Ole Miss and Miss St... But who knew those favorable preseason rankings would leek them holding strong as long as they keep winning... So tired of the sec talk(the agitated tone is by no means directed at you).

The only reason I said, it was hard to argue was not due to the SEC, but for the fact that no one has seemed to take advantage of the situation. Oregon and Baylor both had an argument. I just don't see a while a lot of strong teams this year.

A SEC team losing a close game on the road doesn't bother me at all.  As much as I hate the SEC, I have 4 SEC teams 1-4 and then FSU as #5 in my personal rankings.  

My rankings are based on neutral field outcomes.

The only reason Mississippi State is ranked so high is because they beat 3 AP top 10 opponents rememeber? 

What they don't say is two of them are now unranked (LSU and Texas A&M). Again, you can't beat the built in bias. 

On the other hand, to beat the bias, you have to BEAT the SEC consistently. West VIrginia had a chance and didn't do it and so did K-State. Sure the media would have been skeptical of 1 win but a consistent output of wins against the SEC will change the perception. The Big 12 is almost there but it needed to step up in September and beat Alabama and Auburn to show the Sugar Bowl victory OU had over Alabama wasn't a fluke. Now it is viewed as a fluke. 

September matters in college football to the perception of the conference you play in.
