247 REPORTING

247 reporting that Perrin has all the BMD/ most influential donors on board to give Strong another year. Perrin seems to be the driver and main person on bringing Strong back. 247 says UT believes firing Strong after only two years

"makes Texas appear to be a dysfunctional mess of an institution that isn't willing to give coaches a fair shake"

FULL QUOTE:

The reason being, we're told, is if Strong was fired or asked to find a landing spot after this season it would make Texas appear to be a dysfunctional mess that isn't willing to give coaches a fair shake

LOL, that's rich. We're up to our eyeballs in dysfunction which is, I believe, why we're here in the first place.

Now, we're going to save face? LOL

If we go 4-8 again next year, "dysfunctional mess" will be a rather mild way of describing this program. It will be interesting to see how many Horns feel like they saved face then.

I think if you'll go back and do your research, Charlie wanted the OC to be either Tom Herman or Chad Morris. Patterson would not pay Morris' buyout at Clemson, and Herman told Charlie he thought he'd get a head coaching job, which he did. Watson was Charlie's third choice by all accounts despite his development of Bridgewater. I think we'd all agree that sometimes even when we feel like we're making the safe choice, things don't work out regardless of how many figures are on your paycheck. I know I have made what I felt like were solid hires that turned out to be disasters. So you erase the board and try again, which is where Charlie is right now. Perrin is giving Charlie sort of a do-over to get this right because he felt like (and rightfully so, it seems), Patterson handcuffed him. Hell, Patterson stiffed him on the Wickline hire for what amounted to chump change to Okie State. How would things have been different if Morris or Herman were the OC from the start? Is Cumbie the answer at OC? We don't know, but what we do know is Charlie has one chance at this to get it right. I'm with Charlie Strong regardless of what happens against BU. \m/

247 is basically reporting what those of us without any inside info have been saying for weeks now.

Truth.  Good point Patterson didnt want to pay 5 million for Morris's buyout.  Who would?

That still doesnt account for why Charlie kept Watson at OC throughout an entire f##king offseason after getting embarassed:

TCU: 48-10

Ark:   31-7

Thats 79-17 in the last 2 games of 2014

Now again why did Charlie stick by his buddy Watson through an entire off season?

Can you tell us about the part where 247 blamed the BMDs for everything wrong with the Texas program?

Regardless of the origin of that pile of feces, I'd like you to address it since you posted it.

Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock knows that Watson claimed all year that we would have a different offense. Then ND happened and it was apparent that it wasn't the case. Players even claimed that the offense they ran in practice wasn't the offense they ran against ND. Watson panicked and called what he knew. And it failed.

That is why Watson was given another year. It failed. Strong will be letting him walk because of it. Firing Watson mid-season would have been nothing but drama and would have led to even more dysfunction. You don't want to be recruiting against Baylor, A&M and TCU without a QB coach. Even if they're a bad one. And let's all chill out some. We're all here because we love the Burnt Orange. All of us, in our own fashions, want to see Texas return to prominence. This shouldn't be a division of Strongers and Anti-Strongers firing back and forth at one another. Let's enjoy some civil conversation and debate while understanding that nobody here has any control over personnel decisions.

Where did I post anything about BMDs? I most certainly have an opinion about them but I don't recall sharing said opinion.

I'm fairly certain he meant to quote me - despite me never saying it either.

"No surprise the BMD's screwed up the Mack firing, and now were doing their damnedest to screw Texas over again.  Thankfully Perrin is a strong enough force, and a respected enough person, to keep those idiots with checkbooks in line."

If you like, I can quote my response to you here since it's not working for you over there. lol

Blake – sorry, got you confused with hippo.

We are not going 4-8 next year.  Not happening and is non-productive to even discuss it.

Consider, SHL, what we should expect next year.  I will, at this time, only discuss the returning offense.

QB's - It has been historically proven that young college players improve with experience and maturity.  Can you deny that Jerrod Heard is an outstanding athlete?  So I have to believe he will certainly improve.  Swoopes will even get better in his red zone role.  Locksley could surprise everyone - he is just that athletic.  Forget Buechele - he will RS.

Receivers - The big unknown.  Sure, Burt will be the main stud, but where is a Shipley?  We desperately need someone to assume Shipley's role.

RB's - Get out of here.  We will have the best RB corps in the conference (and maybe the nation) and Baylor will give us an indication whether or not Warren will be a young Earl Campbell.

OL - THIS is where we should start to get excited.  Our OL has been through the crucible of fire and will return almost intact.  It will be bigger, stronger and more experienced and will be stocked with some mean SOB's.  Our OL will be the best we have had in years and will be what keeps Heard from getting killed.

I think it is safe to say that, next year, we could see indications of the beginnings of an offensive juggernaught.

Don't be surprised.

Blaming BMD's for the Mack firing F@#K up = blaming them for everything wrong with Texas?

You're serious?

First, it wasn't just a talent problem on offense. See where Watson is now.

Second, in one breath you say its fair to expect improvement from year to year. Then remarkably, you go right into Swoopes without even blinking.

Third, if this year taught you and I anything – it's to throw out all expectations. We have no idea what we have and how it will pan out. We don't know if we have a good OC or if Charlie ends up at UT next year. So much in the air that nothing can be definitive at this point.

We thought at one point our offense had passed its struggling phase. Then Iowa State happened. And it never really got uncorked again after that.

As much as I love Heard, his inconsistency is bothersome. And with his style, will his health hold up?

I would make a date with you and buy your dinner, treat you to a movie of your choice and refuse to kiss you at the door if you end up being right. LOL I would LOVE nothing better.

Well, you have read my contentions,  Which ones do you choose to deny?

By-the-way, I'm not sure what you even mean by this comment:

He is the leading scorer on the team - you don't consider that improving?  Your measuring stick must have zero tolerance to it.

Can anyone on this board deny that our OL was young and inexperienced?  How about our starting QB?  Other than Gray (who lost a step) our RB's?

How about our receivers?  The LB's?  the secondary?

The entire team is heavily populated with youngsters that have never played a down of D-1 football, until this year.  Good Lord!

I've never understood how really smart people simply blow off youth and inexperience as non-issues.   Who on this board believes that players are simply plug and play - regardless of age and experience?  Who?  Who thinks it is not a MAJOR issue?

Why the eagerness to demonize the coaches and the players?  Why the inability to cut the slightest amount of slack for ANYONE on the team?  Your comment about Swoopes is a prime example.

If you believe the inexperience was a factor - why not consider it and use it in your judgment?  And, if you don't believe it was a factor, then, IMO, you don't know football or you are intent on running a narrative.

Strong has struggled as a HC in a program like Texas and I'm not sure he can recover.   For one thing folks, that want him gone, won't give him an iota of slack next year.  I guarantee you if he only beats KU by 10 points, he will be crucified on boards like this one.  You know he will.

The question will be whether you will be in the crucifying mob or not.

I think everyone knows that Strong is mandated to win, at least, 9 games next year - or else.  I fully expect he will.  However, if he doesn't, then firing him should be a foregone conclusion.

TCU has started more freshmen than UT has this year, Doc.
